FIRE PROOFING SYSTEM - Porformance Specification for Tunnel Fire Protection of Canerate and | ight Reflective Coating 13.4 General In order to maintain the structural stability of the Tunnels under a minimum 100MW fire scenario, a passive fire protection system is to be installed. This Specification details the performance criteria for a spray applied, fire resistant lining system for the cunnel concrete lining; and a spray wpplied vermiculite cement fire protective, light reflective, durable and washable water hased enoxy topcoat system for the tunnel walls up to a height of 4.7Sm (Magnolia) + 1.0m (Black/Grey) = 5.75m, ‘The selected fire proofing system shall have a track record in tunnel and petrochemical industries of atleast 25 years, be non-combustible and fully, independently tested in accordance with approved fire test procedures. The system must also satisfy the following physical property requirements ‘+ Minimum Compressive strength 3.0 MN/m? * Thermal Conductivity 0.19 W/m*k @20°C © Specific Heat - 0.97 Ki/kg @ 25°C * Minimum Cohesive/Adhesive Strength of 1OOKN/m? The selected light reflective coating system shall have a track record in tunnel of at least 25 years, be non-combustible and fully independently tested in accordance with approved test procedures. The system must also satisfy the following physical property requirements. * Gloss Performance 55-60% to ISO 2813 + Degree of Luminosity 60% to DIN 7530, * CO; Permeability <= 2mm Diffusion RVS 13.62 and RVS 13.62 4.4,EN 1062-6 + Reaction to Fire Classification 8-s1, do + Smoke Emiction to BS 6853, ONORM B 2200 2 42. Systein Fire Performance Requirements The fire proofing material shall provide structural fire protection and must prevent any spalling or damage of the cast concrete and pre-cast concrete tunnel lining from occurring for a minimum of 2 hours duration for a fire in accordance with the Rijkswaterstaat time/tamperature ‘curve’ (Table 1). Fatigue on metal elements within the system shall have the ability to withstand 50 million stress cycles. 13.3 Fire Protection & Light Reflective Requirements The installed system must be capable of preventing spalling of the high strength concrete linings for @ minimum of two hours fire exposure under the conditions defined in the above table. The system must also demonstrate its ability to provide a minimum of 60% light reflectance on the tunnel walls and be resistant to regular wash-down at 3 monthly intervals using jet washing and detergent techniques st 100bar pressure at a distance of 1.0m from the jet nozzle without damage to the fire protective lining. 1 GENERAL PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS - Fire Protection Lining and Light Reflective Coating 1.1 The passive fire protection system shall be non-combustible. 1.2 The passive fire protection system shall have Class ‘I’ Spread of Flame in accordance with O5 476: Part 7 1.3 The passive fire protection system shall withstand tunnel pressure differentials (resulting from traffic flow) of +/- 1500Pa (1.5kN/m) 1.4 The passive fire protection system shall remain in place during a fire and be able to withstand hot and cold thermal shock and demonstrate its ability to withstand alternating flame Wet Flame) and hose stream impingement. 1.6 The fire proofing material shall be supplied by a UL Listed Manufacturer and UL Labelled and be subjected to a UL Follow-up Service performed by Underwriters Laboratories Inc or its Offices Worldwide for Quality Assurance. 1.7 The Decorative, Light Reflective, Anti-Carbonation Tunnel Coating shall be two component water dispersed epoxy based coating and shall be specifically designed for use in Vehicular Tunnels with a proven long term performance 19 1.10 it 1.12 1.13 114 145 1.16 a7 118 -- 608 resistant to water and carbon dioxide ingress and should have been tested for anti-carbonation properties to a suitable standard. The Decorative, Light Reflective, Anti-Carbonation Tunnel Coating should have a degree of luminosity when tested in accordance with EN ISO 2813 of greater than 60%. The Decorative, Light Reflective, Anti-Carbonation Tunnel Coating should resist chemical attack from heavily sulphur laden atmosphere as encountered in Vehicular Tunnels, The Decorative, Light Reflective, Anti-Carbonation Tunnel Coating should possess a high degree of chemical inertness and in particular is fully resistant to: Motor Vahiclo Exhaust Fumes — Oile — Petrol - Diesel — Alkaline Detergent Sulpuhrous Deposits ~ Fungicides and will not support mould growth The Decorative, Light Reflective, Anti-Carbonation Tunnel Coating should be certified to Class 1 “Spread of Flame” to BS 476 Part 7, Section 2; M1 (French Norm); ONORM B 3800 B1; Reaction to Fire Performance in accordance with £N13823:2010, Ignitability to BSEN 150 11925-2:2010, and a Reaction to Fire Classification B-s1, dO to EN1350-1:2007+ A1: 2009, ‘The Decorative, Light Reflective, Anti-Carbonation Tunnel Coating must be tested for smoke emissions in accordance with BS 6853, the results will be within the following limits AO (on) <0.55 0 (off) <0.98 The Decorative, Light Reflective, Anti-Carbonation Tunnel Coating must remain adhered to the substrate without blistering or peeling and when subjected to a pull off test for adhesion using equipment complying with ISO 4624 there should be 100% surface area of substrate adhesion to the dolly when tested in accordance with B53900 Part £10 the coating applied to sample concrete (Class 150/20VS) will have a Pull-Ott strength of not less than 4N/mm2. The Decorative, Light Reflective, Anti-Carbonation Tunnel Coating should not be Penetrated by a load of less than SO00g when tested in accordance with ISO 1518 (Scratch Test). The Test Panel shall be in concrete Class T50/20VS or Aluminium Panel. The Decorative. light Reflertive, Anti-Carhanatinn Tunnel Coating should not cause chemical or other reaction that will reduce the effectiveness or otherwise of the sprayed fire protection system, The Decorative. Light Reflective, Anti-Carbonation Tunnel Coating shall be easy to clean and biological growth repellent, it should be capable of resisting 3 monthly detergent wash-down operations using jet-washing techniques at 1500 psi (100 bar) pressure at approximately 1.U m distance without damage. The quality and composition of the Decorative, Light Reflective, Anti-Carbonation Tunnel Coating material shall be such that the colour does not fade or change within the tunnel lighting throughout a minimum life of 20 years. The Decorative. Light Reflective, Anti-Carbonation Tunnel Coating must pass all Test Criteria and possess a complete set of Independent Test results Installation of the both systems shall be carried out by a specialist contractor, ‘experienced in the application of Tunnel Coatings, recognized and trained by the wufacturer of the system(s) ;2477Paplication shall be carried out to an established, written Quality Le ~~ 607 Assuranee/Quality Contral (QA/OC) procedure, agreed with the Authority prior to commencement of the contract. 1.22. The system must not become a hazard during a fire whether by spalling, spreading flame or producing toxic tumes. 1.23 The system shall have a proven performance track record in road tunnel environments and be resistant to chemical attack from heavy sulphur laden atmospheres. 1.24 The system shall not fall suddenly after a fire but demonstrate its ability to provide a predicable level of protection beyond the defined fire exposure periad, 1.25. The system shall be resistant to water ingress. 1.26 The entire system shall meet all applicable HSE Standards and Regulations. 1.27 At the commencement of application, a representative sample shall be prepared by the specialist applicator that is to be used as a reference for the project with respect to thickness, standard of finish ete. 13.4 APPLICATION and LOCATION OF USE IN TUNNEL The Fire Protection Lining shall be applied to all Surfaces with any type of Conerete Lining.
