As my friend khurram nasir has discussed the introduction of the Hbl so would like

to add more in it by talking about the industrial profile of the hbl. As we know that
hbl is one the largest and the oldest commercial bank of Pakistan. The HBL
operates in Pakistan; Europe, Middle East and America, and Asia and Africa. Over
the years the HBL has opened its different branches in the each cities of the
Pakistan. HBL maintained its market position as the largest private sector bank in
the Pakistan with over 1650+ branches and the 2100+ ATM globally. There are
total 20795 employees which are working in the HBL. There are 23 million
customers worldwide which are gaining the services of the HBL bank.
The HBL bank includes the branch banking which consists of the loans, deposits
and the other banking services to the agriculture, customer and the small and
medium size enterprise. The Government of Pakistan privatized HBL in 2004
through which Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development acquired 51% of the
Bank’s shareholding and the management control. The remaining 41.5%
shareholding by the government of Punjab was divested in April 2015.
Now we talk about the sales of the HBL. Habib Bank Limited reported sales of
298.42 billion Pakistan Rupees US$1.92 billion for the year ending December
of 2020. Not all segments of Habib Bank Limited experienced an increase in
sales in 2020: sales of Branch Banking fell 37.3% to 54.07 billion Pakistan
Rupees. During the first quarter of 2021, sales at Habib Bank Limited totaled
71.35 billion Pakistan Rupees. This is a drop of 8.6% from the 78.10 billion
Pakistan Rupees in sales at the company during the first quarter in 2020.
Opportunities:
 Long term and small scale projects:
The HBL is currently focusing on the big and the long term projects but they should also
concentrate on the small scale investments having small maturity period.
 Investment:
Now-a-days HBL has been investing almost 18% of its total investment on cotton business
 Improved promotional techniques:
HBL has an opportunity to promote IT sector in Pakistan by finance and organizing events
 Cooperation with other banks:
As, we know that the HBL is the largest and the old bank of the Pakistan. So the HBL should
corporate with the others banks in Pakistan to promote the banking industry in the country
 E-banking facility:
The HBL should start providing the E-banking facility to their customers so this is also a new
opportunity which is a flourishing business in the world.
Threats:
 Competition in the market:
As, HBL is the old bank in the Pakistan but there are many other great banks which are giving
the best banking facilities in the Pakistan. So the competition is very high for the HBL in the
external environment.
 Private commercial banks:
There are many private commercial banks in the Pakistan like the Bank AL-Habib and the MCB
which are giving the good facilities and the services than the HBL so the people are preferring
more these private commercial banks.
 Shortage of the specialized staff:
The HBL hires the best skilled and talented employees in their banking system. So there are
many people in the Pakistan which do not know about the real banking system.
 Foreign banks:
HBL is facing more competition by foreign banks in the market. Foreign banks are flourishing in
field of consumer financing.
The value chain:
Alliances and partnerships can be formed for many different reasons. So the HBL and Huawei
formed the strategic alliance in 2020 and these alliances are successful for the company then they
again formed the alliances in the 2021 to increase the profits for the both companies and to
improve the information technology of HBL. The HBL and Huawei did the strategic alliance by
looking at the company size and doing the negotiations with the other company. The manager
told us that the HBL formed the alliance with the other companies when they are getting any
benefit from it. The HBL alliance with the Huawei is managed by the higher management team
in the organization. The higher managers of the HBL look after the day to day operations of the
alliance. The alliances information is confidential in the organization. So it depends on the scope
of the work that it can be or not be discussed with the employees in the organization.

Making Alliances and Partnership Work  


The HBL always form the alliance with the companies from which they can get the benefit. Like
the alliance with the Huawei they formed it because they are improving their online banking
system through it. We asked the manager that the alliance is successful or not with the Huawei so
he said that it will definitely be successful because both the companies are getting benefit from
it. The senior level managers are working on the alliance of the HBL and Huawei to make it
successful. There is no such alliance which is unsuccessful for the HBL till now. The alliances in
the HBL are go through the process. The HBL organization did the in depth research before
forming any alliance with the other companies. The HBL alliance with the Huawei will be
successful in the future if there no unforeseen market came.
