Education plays an important role in the development of society which has many aspects that
people haven’t noticed. In particular, motivation of studying, the relationship between it and
learning outcomes of students are the aspects that attract many researchers to explore. This essay
will give some comparison and contrast of the three studies of Tran, N. T. (2013), Guo et al (2015),
Cham et al. (2015).
The three studies have some differences in researching each aspect of learning motivation and each
has its own purpose. Tran, N. T. estimated the idea about the academic underachievement among
ethnic minority students in Lam Dong Province, Vietnam, is tested in this paper through an
analysis of factors referring to low educational motivation and its results for educational success,
whereas another study (Guo et al., 2015) investigated personality and gender differences in
university entrance and educational pathway selection. The last one (Cham et al., 2015) analyzed
the effect of grade retention in elementary school on students' inspiration for educational
accomplishment in grade 9. On the other hand, these researches use different methodology –
quantitative or qualitative to distinct for variety of scopes. While the first study (Tran, N.T. 2013)
used qualitative method by holding an examination to collect data, the second one used
quanitiative method through drawing a nationally representative longitudinal sample of 15-year-old
Australian teenagers and so did Cham et al. (2015) which used propensity rating weighting to
evaluate retained and promoted students on 67 covariates measured in grade 1.
Those researches offer one of the kind results because of their specific goals. Tran N.T. pointed out
that underrating schooling and inadequate educational self-assurance, priorities… have been some
of the motives for low educational achievement which may have been resulted from insufficient
educational effects, parental expectations and lack of care for their children's education. The
research conducted by Guo et al., (2015) indicated that math self-perspective and immanent value
engage in predicting advanced math route selection, college entrance, and STEM fields of learning,
additionally prior reading accomplishment has bad effects on advanced math course selection and
STEM fields by way of math motivational beliefs and final one is gender variations in academic
consequences are mediated with the aid of math motivational beliefs. Cham et al. (2015) claimed
that grade retention might not have the adverse consequences which have been generally believed
in the literature. It is far a high-priced intervention and not using a evidence of gains to the retained
students.
In summary, the researches have exploited unexpected aspects of education which contributed to
