THE COMPOUND EFFECT – DARREN HARDY

BOOK REVIEW

Introduction:
The Compound effect by Darren Hardy is a book designed to multiply all round
success of an individual by his determined decision to take one simple step at a
time towards achieving his set goals.
It is designed to help individuals take control of their lives.
It is a manual that teaches me how to own my life system, how to control it,
master it and shape it to my needs and desires.
It teaches me that it is the littlest decisions that shape my live – a little stray off
course by just two millimeters and my trajectory changes – that is, what seemed
like a tiny inconsequential decision now can become a mammoth miscalculation
tomorrow.
It teaches me what it really takes to earn success, that is, the simple but profound
fundamentals of what it takes to be successful.
It is about the half-dozen basics, when focused on and mastered, constitute the
operating system that can take me to any goal my desire and help me live the life
I was meant to live.
I have a lot of information gathered in my head, what I now need is a new plan of
action – creation of new behaviors and habits that are oriented away from
sabotage and toward success.
CHAPTER 1
COMPOUND EFFECT IN ACTION
Compound effect is the principle of reaping huge rewards from a series of small,
smart choices (in my health, relationships, finances or anything). Here, the results
are massive but the steps by the moments, don’t fell significant. The small
changes offer little or no immediate result, no big win, no obvious I – told-you-so
payoffs however, the seemingly insignificant steps completed consistently over
time will create a radical difference.
In life, I do not have to be the best, the smartest or the fastest in order to
succeed, all I need is to develop positive habits and consistently apply those
habits – what I lack in experience, intelligence skill and mental alertness, I can
make up with hard work. If my competitor is smarter, more talented or
experienced, I just need to work three or four times as hard and I will beat them.
I must however take personal responsibility and walk my talk.
It takes dedication and responsibility to achieve whatever I set out to achieve!
Hard and consistent work pays!

The Ripple Effect

The reality of repeating simple daily disciplines is that even one small change can
have a significant impact that causes an unexpected and unintended ripple effect.
Success (old School) – the challenge:
The most challenging aspect of compound effect is that I will keep working away
for a while, consistently and efficiently, before I can begin to see the payoff.
Wealth tends to skip a generation. Overwhelming abundance often leads to a
lackadaisical mentality.
What does it take to create lasting success? The necessary ingredients – grit, hard
work, and fortitude- aren’t alluring and thus no longer appreciated by the entire
populace. Respect for the strive and struggle of our fore fathers have been lost.
