(a) For new ships, the amendments would apply to installations on board ships the keels of which are
laid or which are at a similar stage of construction on or after entry into force date;
(b) For existing ships, the amendments would apply to new installations with a contractual delivery
date to the ship on or after the date or, in the absence of a contractual delivery date, the actual
delivery of the equipment to the ship on or after entry into force date.

Amendments to FSS Code: IMO Sub-Committee on Fire Protection has prepared an amendment to the
FSS Code to make it clear that amendments to the Code should, unless expressed otherwise, apply
only to ships constructed on or after the date on which the amendments enter into force (DE 51/21,
para. 17.11).
