PAST TENSE
Formation;
subject + verb 2nd form + object

• We use DID as helping verb while making the sentence negative with
singular and plural subjects both.
• While making sentence negative the 2nd form of the verb changes into
first form.
• EXAMPLE
• She wrote letter to her mother.
• She did not write a letter to her mother.
• The villagers caught the thief.
• The villagers did not catch the thief.
• He stole her ornaments.
• He did not steal her ornaments.
PAST PERFECT
• FOEMATION
• Sub + had + verb 3rd form + object
• We use HAD as helping verb wit singular and plural subjects both.
• To change sentence into negative we add NOT with HAD.

EXAMPLE
• My uncle had sold his house.
• My uncle had not sold his house.
• They had got up.
More about past perfect
• We use the past perfect for a past action which happened before
another past action.
• Example: They had gone when I arrived home.
• It is used when there are two actions, one happens earlier than other.
• We use past perfect for the first action and simple past for the
second.
• Example 1: He had done his homework before he went to play.
• Example 2 : After they had done dinner, they returned home.
