Personal statement for Summer@INSEAD

One morning, in the summer of 2016, at the age of 13, half of my face went numb.We
went to the hospital and the doctor on call told me it was a minor paresis. He also sent us to
another city, a university center, because the only pediatric neurologist in my city was working
in private practice that did not work within the public healthcare system. Afterwards, We had to
return home by bus and ended up getting treatment at a private opractice because there was no
other choice. I had always wanted to be a doctor, but I came to the conclusion that being a doctor
working in a failing healthcare system I would not be able to bring any changes in the future.
Considering my interest in biology and medicine and my wish to bring noticeable positive
changes, I researched different options and realized that what I really wanted to study was Global
Health.
This very demanding path will require me to develop resilience and accumulate solid
knowledge in many fields. With this in mind, when I had to choose my profile in high school, I
decided to follow the mathematics, informatics, physics classes. I knew it was going to be
difficult, because humanities are my strong subjects. However, I decided to cultivate as many
interests as possible by pushing myself every day. My resiliance was tested when following a
national exam, I did not get accepted at the best high school in my city. I did not give up, I
worked hard for a year and proved I deserved to be there; I got accepted in September and I
study there now. I also propose myself to work on persuasion skills- I convinced my new
classmates to participate at a Christmas concours.
The last few years I realized I had to improve myself in every possible way. I saw the
program Summer@INSEAD as an opportunity for attending top educational institutions and
learning how to set my path and progress in my career. In this regard, the courses that excited me
the most are the Societal Progress, Decision Making and Strategy ones, which bring me that
much hope and enthusiasm.
On that bus ride back home I felt powerless in a way I had never felt before and I
reestablished my priorities. I changed in many ways and I learned a lot. I became a better person
by reading more, trying to understand more about the world and trying to find a way to learn
made me a more compassionate and reliable person. Meeting new people and hearing new
experiences makes me think that I am able to reach every goal by just being truly interested and
dedicated. Attending Summer@INSEAD would give me the opportunity to discover my path.
Writing my first personal statement made me feel nervous in the beginning, but as the hours
passed I became more and more passionate and excited while writing about myself and my
biggest plans.
