1.3 Overview
This section describes DBS3900 LampSite and DBS5900 LampSite base stations as
well as related basic concepts, to help users quickly understand products.
Concept
Figure 1-1 illustrates concepts involved in pRRU networking.
● SFN allows multiple physical cells served by multiple RF modules working on the same
frequency band to be combined into a single cell, namely, an SFN cell. For details, see
SFN in eRAN Feature Documentation. To obtain this document, visit support.huawei.com
and choose Product Support > Wireless Network > LTE > FDD RAN > LTE
FDD_eNodeB > eRAN > eRAN Feature Documentation > RAN Functions >
Interference Mitigation > SFN.
● Independent Demodulation of Signals from Multiple Small Cell RRUs in One Cell is a
key feature in the LampSite solution. It combines areas covered by multiple pRRUs into
one logical cell through digital combination/splitting and independent demodulation.
For details, see Independent Demodulation of Signals from Multiple Small Cell RRUs in
One Cell in RAN Feature Documentation. To obtain this document, visit
support.huawei.com and choose Product Support > Wireless Network > UMTS RAN >
RAN Solution > RAN Feature Documentation > Feature Description > Radio &
Performance > Coverage Enhancement > Independent Demodulation of Signals
from Multiple Small Cell RRUs in One Cell.
Subband
A subband is a unit by which the multi-mode radio frequency card processes one
or more carriers from signal sources in RF input mode. Adjacent carriers of the
same operator cannot be separated by carriers of other operators. For example,
four GSM carriers correspond to one subband (max bandwidth of 20 MHz); two
contiguous UMTS carriers correspond to one subband (max bandwidth of 10
MHz).
● The following figure shows a GSM subband. Up to four 200 kHz GSM carriers
are supported per subband.
CPRI ports transmit control-plane data and user-plane data among the BBU, DCU, RHUB,
pRRU, and hRRU. User-plane data is I/Q data. For details about CPRI and I/Q, see CPRI
Specification.
BBU access for UMTS, LTE FDD, LTE TDD, LTE NB-IoT, and NR is supported. The
following table describes networking specifications.
Item Specifications
Item Specifications
For details about BBU board configurations, see 1.4.1.4.3 Board Configurations.
a: In separate-MPT scenarios, a single baseband processing unit of the converged party supports a
maximum of 96 pRRUs. If support for 192 pRRUs is required, at least two baseband processing
units must be configured for the converged party.
Item Specifications
RHUB pRRU
RHUB5921 pRRU5921/pRRU5935/pRRU5963
RHUB pRRU
RHUB5923 pRRU5921/pRRU5935/pRRU5935H/pRRU5963
a: Only the pRRU5935 with one optical port and two electrical ports can be cascaded. The
pRRU5935 with only one optical port cannot be cascaded.
● In BBU-RHUB load sharing topology, RHUBs cannot be cascaded and the two optical
fibers from an RHUB must be connected to the same baseband processing unit.
Table 1-6 lists the BBU-RHUB CPRI bandwidth occupied by each cell sector
equipment group in BBU access for non-NR RATs. Table 1-7 lists the BBU-RHUB
CPRI bandwidth occupied by each NR DU cell TRP in BBU access for NR.
Table 1-6 BBU-RHUB CPRI bandwidth occupied by each cell sector equipment group (BBU access)
a: This column lists the CPRI bandwidth occupied by each cell sector equipment group when the
CPRI line rate is 9.8 Gbit/s.
b: This column lists the CPRI bandwidth occupied by each cell sector equipment group when the
CPRI line rate is 10.1 Gbit/s.
c: This column lists the CPRI bandwidth occupied by each cell sector equipment group when the
CPRI line rate is 25 Gbit/s.
d: LTE NB-IoT standalone, LTE NB-IoT guardband, and LTE NB-IoT inband without shared channels
are included.
● LTE NB-IoT inband with shared channels does not cause separate CPRI bandwidth
consumption and shares the CPRI bandwidth with LTE FDD.
● The CPRI bandwidth is calculated based on control data overhead and coding efficiency.
When the CPRI line rate is 9.8 Gbit/s, coding efficiency of 8/10 and control data
overhead of 1/16 apply. When the CPRI line rate is 10.1 Gbit/s, coding efficiency of
64/66 and control data overhead of 1/20 apply. When the CPRI line rate is 25 Gbit/s,
coding efficiency of 64/66 and control data overhead of 1/48 apply.
● CPRI compression compresses the I/Q bit width and lowers the sampling rate to reduce
the demand on the CPRI bandwidth so that more carriers or pRRUs can be supported on
each CPRI port. For details about quadplex compression, enhanced compression, and
normal compression, see CPRI Compression in eRAN Feature Documentation. To obtain
this document, visit support.huawei.com and choose Product Support > Wireless

Configuration principles for the RHUB-pRRU load sharing topology are as follows:
● Load sharing cannot be achieved over the optical ports on pRRUs.
● A pRRU cannot connect to two RHUBs at the same time.
● The two Ethernet cables are required to be of the same length. When this
requirement for the Ethernet cable length cannot be met, the difference in
length between the two Ethernet cables must not exceed 10 m.
● An RHUB can be connected to up to four pRRUs. Data of a cell cannot be
transmitted over two Ethernet ports for load sharing.
Table 1-10 lists the RHUB-pRRU CPRI bandwidth occupied by each cell sector
equipment group in BBU access for non-NR RATs. Table 1-11 lists the RHUB-pRRU
CPRI bandwidth occupied by each NR DU cell TRP in BBU access for NR.

A BBU that requires GPS clock signals must be connected to a GPS antenna. If multiple BBUs are
installed together, a divider can be configured to connect one GPS antenna to the BBUs,
eliminating the need to install multiple GPS antennas.
The spare parts of LampSite base stations are classified into commissioning spare
parts (such as BBU boards and RF modules) and non-commissioning spare parts
(such as cables, fans, and optical modules).
You can visit support.huawei.com to obtain the spare parts catalogs for
corresponding base stations.
● Use the Poisson algorithm to calculate the number of spare parts, unless
otherwise required by the customer. The following describes the Poisson
algorithm which has been integrated into the Configurator, and thereby does
not need to be manually calculated by product managers.
Poisson algorithm: Use this formula to obtain the value of x which indicates
the number of spare parts.
P indicates the board damage probability accepted by customers, namely the
service level. Usually, the following applies: 85% ≤ P(x) < 100%.
е = 2.71828183
λ = Network capacity x Annual board failure rate x Replenishment period/365
– Replenishment period: 60 days usually
– Network capacity = Number of boards in the main equipment
Network capacity of board 02319428 = 1000
– Board annual failure rate: Provided by the spare parts center. Each board
has its own annual failure rate.
Given that the annual failure rate of board 02319428 is 0.005000, then:
λ = 1000 x 0.005000 x 60/365 = 0.8219178
According to the Poisson algorithm, the number of spare parts for board
02319428 is 4.
● If the customer has requirements on the percentage of spare parts, use the
percentage algorithm to calculate the number of spare parts.
1.4.1.11.3 Precautions
This section provides precautions on spare parts configuration.
The spare parts quantity calculated using the Poisson algorithm can meet only the
basic requirement for live networks. If a customer requires Huawei to comply with
a specified SLA, persuade the customer to purchase the spare parts management
service (SPMS) of Huawei.
In single-operator scenarios, the MERC can only receive GSM/CDMA RF signals for RF input.
For details about BBU board configurations, see 1.4.1.4.3 Board Configurations.
a: In separate-MPT scenarios, a single baseband processing unit of the converged party supports a
maximum of 96 pRRUs. If support for 192 pRRUs is required, at least two baseband processing
units must be configured for the converged party.

d: LTE NB-IoT standalone, LTE NB-IoT guardband, and LTE NB-IoT inband without shared channels
are included.
To obtain

Data of a cell cannot be
transmitted over two Ethernet ports for load sharing.
to an RHUB over the CPRI_E0 port and to a common Ethernet device over the
GE port.

8/10 and control data overhead of 1/16 apply. When the CPRI line rate is 10.1 Gbit/s,
coding efficiency of 64/66 and control data overhead of 1/20 apply. When the CPRI line
rate is 25 Gbit/s, coding efficiency of 64/66 and control data overhead of 1/48 apply.
To obtain

● Configuration restrictions on macro-LampSite co-BBU applicable to all RATs
are as follows:
– Macro-LampSite co-BBU applies in NR only, LTE only, and UL scenarios.
The base station type must be macro.
– LampSite base stations do not support GSM through BBU access.
– Macro and LampSite base stations can share the BBU but not the
baseband processing unit or CPRI link.
– In macro-LampSite co-BBU networking, BBU cascading is not supported.
– Macro-LampSite co-BBU requires that a macro base station be available
before it shares its BBU with a LampSite base station, and does not
support sharing the BBU of a LampSite base station with a macro base
station. If both macro and LampSite base stations are newly-deployed,
the base station type must be macro.
– DAS macro RRUs, outdoor macro RRUs, and Book RRUs can share a BBU
subrack with LampSite pRRUs.
● Configuration restrictions specific to macro-LampSite co-BBU in NR are as
follows:
– Macro-LampSite co-BBU is supported only by DBS5900 base stations in
SA or NSA networking. Subrack interconnection in LNR (one BBU subrack
for LTE and one BBU subrack for NR) is not supported.
– Only the UMPTe and UMPTg can be shared between the LampSite and
macro base stations in 5G.
– The LampSite base station and the macro base station use independent
baseband processing units, and neither can they provide optical fiber
connections from the baseband processing units of each other.
– Baseband resource verification is not supported after macro-LampSite co-
BBU is deployed, and baseband resources must be ensured during site
design.
– Common RF resources of the macro and LampSite base stations are
allocated by the BBU in a unified manner. Manual configuration of the
common RF resources (such as RRU chains and sector equipment IDs) for
the LampSite base station must ensure no conflict with those of the
macro base station.
● Configuration restrictions specific to macro-LampSite co-BBU in UMTS and
LTE are as follows:
– UMTS and LTE main control boards that are applicable to both macro
and LampSite can be used in macro-LampSite co-BBU networking.

a: Macro-LampSite co-BBU is not supported in NR-inclusive scenarios that are not listed in this
table.
● In BBU access+MERC-based input mode, if the macro base station provides the GSM
signal source, GSM and LTE must use different main control boards.
● If the macro and LampSite base stations work in the same mode, they must share the
main control board.
● Separate-MPT must be used for CL.
● Macro-LampSite co-BBU principles are the same for LTE NB-IoT and LTE FDD.

pRRUs.
● Macro RRUs and LampSite pRRUs can replace each other in 1:1 mode. For example: 16
macro RRUs and 80 LampSite pRRUs can be replaced with 18 macro RRUs and 78
LampSite pRRUs.

● UMTS and LTE can use the same or different main control boards. If MERC-
based input is used, only co-MPT is supported. When UMTS and LTE share the
baseband processing unit, they must also share the main control board.
● NR can share the main control board with LTE.
Baseband processing unit:
● A single BBU subrack can be configured with up to six baseband processing
units. The model and number of baseband processing units need to be
configured according to the network plan based on the supported RATs and
specifications.
● LTE FDD and LTE TDD cannot share the baseband processing unit.
● In BBU access mode, the UBBPfw1 cannot be used for BBU-BBU
interconnection.
Multi-mode extended radio frequency card:
● Only the BBU3910 and BBU5900 subracks can be configured with the MERC.
● One MERC supports only one frequency band. One BBU supports up to five
MERCs.
● The MERC does not have CPRI ports and therefore cannot be connected to RF
modules through optical fibers. Instead, optical fibers must be routed from
the baseband processing unit to transmit data forwarded by the backplane.

The full-load input power per MERC port ranges from 0 dBm to 16 dBm or is converted into
the input pilot power using the following formula: Pilot power = Full-load power – Pilot
power ratio. The pilot power ratio for each RAT is calculated as follows:
● The pilot power ratio in GSM depends on the number of carriers which is calculated as
follows: 10 x lg(1/Carrier quantity) dB.
● The pilot power ratio in UMTS depends on the power configuration of channels such
as the Common Pilot Channel (CPICH), synchronization channel (SCH), and broadcast
channel (BCH). For example, if the CPICH has a 10% power ratio, the pilot power ratio
is –7.4 dB.
When multiple carriers share one port, the full-load power of each carrier must be at least
–6 dBm and the difference between the total power of the port and the full-load power of
each carrier must be equal to or less than 12 dB.
In LTE MIMO scenarios, two consecutive 1T1R ports (for example, 0–1, 2–3, 4–5, 6–7)
work as a group of MIMO RF ports.
– One piece is required for an LTE only base station to support BITS and
RGPS.
– Up to one piece can be configured for one BBU.
– Each board occupies one slot in a BBU.
– It can be used with the BBU3910 and BBU5900.
● The USCUb14 (WD2D0USCU300) is a USCU which has a built-in GPS satellite
card (U-BLOX satellite card) and applies to GSM, UMTS, and LTE. Its
configuration principles are as follows:
– One piece is required for a BBU to support BITS.
– One piece is required when the main control board in a BBU does not
support GPS but the GPS clock is required.
– Up to one piece can be configured for one BBU.
– Each board occupies one slot in a BBU.
– It can be used with the BBU3910 and BBU5900.
● The USCUb18 (WD2D0USCUB18) is a USCU which has a built-in GPS/BDS/
GlONASS/Galileo/QZSS multimode satellite card. Its configuration principles
are as follows:
– One piece is required for a BBU to support BITS.
– One piece is required when the main control board in a BBU does not
support GPS but the GPS clock is required.
– Up to one piece can be configured for one BBU.
– Each board occupies one slot in a BBU.
– It can be used with the BBU3910 and BBU5900.

Poisson algorithm: Use this formula to obtain the value of x which indicates
the number of spare parts.
P indicates the board damage probability accepted by customers, namely the
service level. Usually, the following applies: 85% ≤ P(x) < 100%.
е = 2.71828183
λ = Network capacity x Annual board failure rate x Replenishment period/365
– Replenishment period: 60 days usually
– Network capacity = Number of boards in the main equipment
Network capacity of board 02319428 = 1000
– Board annual failure rate: Provided by the spare parts center. Each board
has its own annual failure rate.
Given that the annual failure rate of board 02319428 is 0.005000, then:
λ = 1000 x 0.005000 x 60/365 = 0.8219178
According to the Poisson algorithm, the number of spare parts for board
02319428 is 4.
● If the customer has requirements on the percentage of spare parts, use the
percentage algorithm to calculate the number of spare parts.
1.4.2.11.3 Precautions
This section provides precautions on spare parts configuration.
The spare parts quantity calculated using the Poisson algorithm can meet only the
basic requirement for live networks. If a customer requires Huawei to comply with
a specified SLA, persuade the customer to purchase the spare parts management
service (SPMS) of Huawei.
