A History Of Gambling:
Gambling, a wagering of money or something of value, also called a game of
chance is played often with the hope of winning money or material goods whose
outcome is unknown. Although its exact origins
are unknown but in one form or other gambling
has always been a part of our society.
But it has been said that gambling of different
kinds existed even before the history was
written.

 The evidence for earliest six-sided dice was found from an Egyptian tomb in
3000BC.
 The first time the dice game was mention in Greek history was in 500 BC.
 In the first millennium BC gambling houses were very common in China
and furthermore in 9th century playing cards and in 10th century lotto games
and dominoes also appeared, respectively.
 Gambling in Japan could be traced back to 14th century.
 Poker game, which is associated with gambling is derived from Persian
game As-Nas which dates back to 17th century.
 Roulette was first originated from the gambling houses of Paris. While
Napoleon took interest in the card game vingt-et-un – what is now known as
blackjack or twenty-one.
 The French are credited with inventing playing cards in 1387, and in 1440
Johann Gutenberg of Germany printed the first full deck of cards.
 The English developed a diversion called hazard, the forerunner of today’s
popular dice-throwing game of craps.
 The first gambling houses which could be compared with casinos began to
appear in Italy and the first formal casino Ridotto which provided legalized
gambling, was opened in 1638 in Venice.

Origin Of Casinos:
Casino is derived from Latin word casa meaning a small house. It was only
with the evolution of time that a casino came to be known as a house for gathering

and socialization. A variety of functions like singing, dancing and of course
gambling began to take place in those houses, with gambling becoming more
imminent with the passing of time.
And later on, gambling took a legalized name of
gaming. Casinos all over the world began
offering the ancient gambling games in a
modern package.
Nowadays when we think about Casinos, only
Las Vegas comes into our mind. But it was only
in 1930’s after the crash of wall street and the great depression that gambling was
legalized in America so suffering people could alleviate their depression and
poverty through this game.

Casino Hotels:
As time went by people started to crave more luxury. Tourists, gamblers and
holiday seekers from all around the world began visiting famous casinos. That put
down the base of casino-hotels which would further come in future.
A casino-hotel consists of a casino and an on-premises hotel and comes equipped
with both gambling facilities provided by the casino and lodging, food and
beverages, swimming pool, spa, valet parking and many other services by the
hotel. The guest has a benefit of receiving both the casino and hotel facilities in
one location.
The first luxury casino-hotel “Pink Flamingo”
was built by a notorious gangster Bugsy Siegel
in 1946 Las Vegas. It provided lodging and
meals as well as gambling facilities.
The Golden Nugget Casino-Hotel was also
opened in 1946 and till today it is the most
luxurious casino-hotel with a total of 2,419
luxury rooms.
Over the last decade casinos have come to mean much more than gambling halls.
