Task1.1: Tim Collins made several mistakes because he lacked knowledge of the local business culture. Scanned with CamScanner There were 6 mistakes: 1. Tim turned down AI - Jabri’s offer of coffee. In the Arab world, it is polite to accept at least one cup of coffee/tea. 2. Tim hadn't gone sightseeing Riyadh, which is probably a city that Al - Jabri was proud of. 3. In the Arab world, it is usually when someone interrupts the conversation to take telephone calls. Therefore, Tim should not have been down when AI - Jabri did this. 4. Tim admired a painting in Al - Jabri’s office then Al - Jabri insisted on giving it to him. In Arab, if a guest admires something, the host may sometimes offer it as a gift. 5. Tim did not prepare precisely for his presentation. 6. Tim misinterpreted Al - Jabri’s comment “if God pleases” which did not mean the agreement of placing an order. Task 2.1 Do you think Selig will be able to work with Pedro ongoin venture? Give yeason for your answer. I think Selig won’t be able to work with Pedro on the joint venture. As Selig said, they are so different in the way of doing business. Selig is more focused and straightforward about the business topic. In return, Pedro is more lay back. He often had uninvited people to join the meeting who are his colleagues. It would be no big problem if those colleagues participated in the meeting’s topic. They were there distracting the meeting’s topic with irrelevant talk such as asking Selig about his personal life, about the new tax policy in Brazil. Pedro even mentioned that business in Brazil usually takes a long time. This is usual practice in the Arab world. Then Collins shouldn't have been upset, it affects his mood when negotiating with customers. - Tim should arrange a time (2 days) to visit Riyadh and take note of how it is a beautiful city which is a city that Al-Jabri was proud of, that would create a good impression. - Collins should prepare properly for his presentation. -\ Task 2.2:{ You are Pedro Olivera. Write a short report about your meeting with Selig for the company’s director. Describe how you felt about the meeting and recommend whether or not the company should proceed with the joint venture. After two days of the Scanned with CamScanner meeting, there was just only the first item on the agenda that was talked about. Introduction: This report will be looking at the discussion about a joint venture project. Finding: For two days meeting, Selig just presented the first item on agenda. Because: - On the first day, the meeting was kicked off late because of the thunderstorm. During the meeting time, we just talked about everything except business. After that, we had lunch and talked about food. And then, we went to the business club to play snooker until 6 pm. Then, Mr, Selig went back hotel. - On the second day, my secretary, who changed the meeting schedule to two in the afternoon. However, Mr. Selig just presented an item on agenda, because the participants raise a massive of questions. and we just discussed the new tax policy from the government. Finally, I invited Mr. Selig to join dinner at my house. Conclusion: This is an unsuccessful business meeting. I ama nice guy but there is a difference between our business way. Therefore, I think we should not proceed with the joint venture. Recommendation: I think Mr. Selig needs to change his mind and adapt to my business culture.
