Notes:
A huge cost to invest for the drug (about 100 million dollars).
A long timescale to bring the drug to the market (about 10 years).
Not much profit.
Summary:
The ethical dilemma which the company must deal with is whether to
invest a lot of money (about 100 million dollars) in a drug that
potentially cures a disease - called river blindness or something like that.
Whilst most people at risk (especially in Africa) are poor and can not
afford expensive medicine to treat the disease. Therefore, this drug
probably will not produce much profit for the company while they are
not a charity. Moreover, the company will probably take a long time (10
years or so) to bring this drug to the market.
Discussion topics for the management meeting.
- Read about the problems relating to two other drugs and note the key
points.
a) The problem relating to heart disease is some patients have
experienced severe breathing difficulties and other pleasant
while most patients have received significant benefits so they
Scanned with CamScannerdon't know they should make public the results of this test or
withhold this information.
b) The problem relating to dieting products is the result when
they tested the drink on the animal, some animals became
sick in the early trials, Because of claiming to be an ethical
company so they have been reluctant to continue to test this
product on animals or not.
Task 1.1
ype new drug for River Blindness
~| We should continue to search the drug for River Blindness because it can
help millions of people in Africa
We can cooperate with other health organizations to shorten the research
period and reduce the cost burden.
Above all, we invent new drugs to improve people's health
Test results for the PX200
We should honestly publish the results of this test because side effects
may be directly harmful to patients’ health.
We will provide a detailed report on drug side effects related to risks for
patients with high blood pressure.
Animal testing for a dieting product.
If we want to improve the image of the company, we will have to look
for different alternatives to not do animal experiments.
Currently, there are many people interested in this topic, and that
number will continue to increase. For long-term development, we should
stop animal experiments.

+ The development is in the final stage with great results
Si Problem: Recent series of the test had negative results that caused
breathing difficulties to the patients + unpleasant side effects

Series tests as they did in the previous test? Or should UP withhold the
information at the stage? ¢
+ Brainstorming for solution
3. Animal testing fora dieting product
+ New dieting drink developed by R&D department helps people
lose weight. Potential great profit when bringing to the market.
+ Tests have been taken on the animal, with a negative effect. Some
animals became sick after the test.
. Should UP keep working on this kind of test as an ethical concern?
Or will UP develop the drink without using the animal?
