What galaxy is Earth in ? i Our own star- the sun - and the Earth and other plants are all part of the Milky Waygalaxy. From one part of space, far beyond our galaxy, the whole galaxy would appear as big band of light with a bulge in the middle. From anather part of space beyond our galaxy, the Milky Way would appear as a glowing spiral - shaped island. Our own sun would appear as a medium sized star on one of the spiral's starry arms. Ifyou looked at the night sky froma place far from city lights, you might see the Milky Way as a glowing band of light stretching across the sky. This band is made up of billions of stars. You cannot see the seperate stars in the band without using a telescope because the starts are so far away from us. The glowing band is actually only part of the galaxy that we call the Milky Way. This galaxy includes all the seperate stars we see in the night sky. These starts are closer to the Earth than the band is, so we don't see them all blurred together. : ‘What is a solar system ? The sun's family consists of planets, asteroids, comets, and meteors. Many scientists think that there could be planets orbiting many stars.
