INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

STUDENT SUMMIT 2021
IWD SUMMIT
PROGRAM SUMMARY
Program Overview
This Summit brings together a diverse group of students to take part in designing, testing, and iterating solutions to some of
the world’s most intractable problems when it comes to gender equality. While learning about the various issues women and
girls face globally, we’ll learn about ourselves as leaders—and about how each of us can take action to advance gender
equality worldwide. Over the course of 2 days, groups of students from around the world will gain inspiration from expert
speakers and collaborate virtually on short, fun, and meaningful projects and collaborations. This program is designed for
students aged 11 - 18.

Far from being a lecture or a simulation, students instead examine serious issues, build new relationships with peers, and
work directly on #ChoosetoChallenge to dream up new ways to accelerate progress on gender equality.

Key Activities
Meaning Building Activity on Equiterra, a Utopia where
gender equality has been achieved.
Speaker Choice: 30-minute talks with women excelling in
their fields
Group project: students collaborated with peers from
different contexts to create a visual representation of a
problem related to gender inequality and its solution
Pledge wall: students made personal commitments to
fighting gender inequality and posted them to our Digital
Summit Pledge Wall.

AREAS FOR
IMPROVEMENT

Students were asked to provide recommendations for changes to future virtual

programs. Responses were highly dependent on the individual student, with high
variance within programs. The most frequently mentioned recommendations were:

From Students:
Allow more time for project work & explain the project a bit more in-depth
Have more time for discussion with the Summit Groups
Increase the diversity of students, both in terms of gender and nationalities

From the Envoys Team:

Allow time to debrief speaker sessions and other activities
Provide instructions in other languages for students whose first language is not
English
Improve pre-summit communications in hopes of increasing attendance rates

because there was just enough packed into two days to be

and I simply had a lot of fun, was very inspired, and am
