1.What important topics about power in groups are discussed in the video?

On that video I learned the power in group that Power is an essential element of group
life because it enables the members to effectively complete their goals. Authorities use
it to control the activities of others. The concept of power is often used to describe the
ability to influence another person’s behavior. In other words, the power a person has is
capable of changing another person’s behavior.

2.Identify and describe the bases of power and tactics. Give two examples for each.

Power bases -Power comes from several sources, each of which has different effects
on the targets of that power. Some derive from individual characteristics; others draw on
aspects of an organization’s structure. Six types of power
are legitimate, referent, expert, reward, coercive, and informational. When focusing on
relationships in organizational life, the view of power tends to be on hierarchical
structure. However, as the complexity of the organization has increased, and the role of
hierarchy has become less important, it is important to rethought this perspective.

For example, the policeman would like to inspect all your bags before you proceed
inside the bus terminal. As a passenger we need to follow the rules implemented by the
authorities and trust the people in charge especially to the policeman because they are
responsible on that. It will connect to the legitimate power. Also called “positional
power,” this is the power individuals have from their role and status within an
organization. Legitimate power usually involves formal authority delegated to the holder
of the position.

Referent power comes from being trusted and respected.  We can gain referent power
when others trust what we do and respect us for how we handle situations. For
example, our focal person in PYAP have a power to lead us. always do his best to help
my fellow youth his dedication and determination inspire me as a part of his group
organization.
Power tactics- According to the video, power tactics is all about how do people their
way. For each individual whom you need to influence, determine which tactics you will
need to employ. In addition to the strategies mentioned above, logical persuasion or
offering increased prestige or improved image within the organization can be effective.

For example: hard/soft tactics

Hard tactics threaten the autonomy of the target, they attempt to get someone to think
or do something specific by metaphorically pushing them in that direction. These tactics
include: making reference to formal authority

These scenario is about -child relationships with phrases like “Do it because I told you
so!”, “This is the right thing that you must do!” or If you don’t follow my decision right
now I’m taking away your cell phone for a week!” And, let me tell you a story of a hard
tactic used in a work setting.

Soft tactics support the autonomy of the target attempt to get someone to think or act in
a certain way by making that alternative more appealing than others. These tactics
include: attempting to persuade with reason or emotion, saying nice things about the
person we call ingratiation or offering something in exchange

These scenario is about group of student and their leader who always ready to guide
her groupmates even she also suffering in difficulties. Let’s see to what a soft tactic
would is like. Imagine a different team leader, Pat, in the same situation I used
before. “Guys this is it! We’ve got to get this project done by tomorrow! Now, I know how
tough overtime can be on you and your family! we all have important commitments
outside this room, but if we all work together we can win this one! let’s do it and make
each other proud
