Introduction/Context:

The sites that I have selected for the website analysis and portfolio are
https://www.adidas.co.uk/ and https://www.nike.com/gb/.

These sites are responsible to provide the information about the sports equipment’s.
These sites provide the sports equipment like shoes, T-shirt, tracksuits, joggers,
hoodies, sweat shirts, shocks, bags, etc. Here a user can get review posted by different
user and their personal rating towards that particular product. The main difference that
has been spotted between adidas and Nike is that, adidas provides the different design
pattern product whereas Nike provide less design pattern product as compare to
adidas. The user-based review of adidas is better than then Nike.

Website Analysis:
(Measure, 2021) Website analysis is the process where sets of tests are performed so
that performance of a particular website can be checked and evaluated for better result
in coming days. Website analysis plays a vital role for a betterment of that particular site
and as a result it might improve performance, conversion rate as well as the flow of
traffic into the site. Some of the benefits of website analysis are listed below:

• Fix bugs from the website

• Boost performance as well as speed

• Knowledge about the want of visitor

• Website security

• Finding of traffic volume

UI and UX:
(What is UI vs. UX design? What’s the difference?, 2021) UI stands for “User Interface”,
which means the graphical presentation of any application, website or software.
Basically, component of user interface includes of buttons, images, sliders, text entry
fields and many more items where a user can interact at their own which includes the
component such as transition between pages, animations and screen layout too.

According to, User Interface can be defined as the procedure of designing an interface
for a computerized device focusing on a factor that is look.

Similarly, UX stands for “User experience”, which is a feel that user gets when they
interact with a specific product or services. It is actually a factor determined by
interaction of user with a particular website, web applications or software. It deals with
the subject like ease of use, smoothness and performance of the application,
accomplishment of task along with proper interaction of user with any kind of services or
product. As per user experience is figured out by the easiness or the toughness an
individual feels while interaction with the user interface and their respective elements.

Evaluation:
The main aim of evaluation is to figure out more information. As the time was limited
and the information to be gathered is much, I need to prepare such question which
require very less time but help in grabbing more data. This require me to prepare
questionnaire which is very short and understandable to fill up. There are some of the
topics that I need to discuss while preparing the questionnaire and they are:

• Does the color used in the site really gives you the vibe of what you are doing?
Does this impact user’s mood for recommending this to another user?

• Does unstable navigation bar prevent you from doing the task?

• Pile of navigation menu confuses from choosing the intended results

• Does the irresponsive site (site which is not responsive in screen), hampers in
the user behavior for further using the same site?

These topics are also the main objective for my portfolio. As data plays vital role in
figuring out my main objective, I figured out two kinds of evaluation technique that can
really help me with dealing with above mentioned objectives and they are:

• Predictive analysis

• Usability testing

Predictive analysis:
(What is Predictive Analysis?, 2021) The process of predicting about the unknown
future results is defined as predictive analysis. It is carried out through different
techniques such as data mining, statistics, machine learning and modeling which hence
predicts the future results. In predictive analysis we will be dealing with the question
mainly focused in the look and feel of the site. It will primarily defend with the color
used, fonts, navigations menu used, language used and so on.

ANUP SAPKOTA | HUMAN COMPUTER INTERACTION 6

USABILITY EVALUATION PORTFOLIO

Inside of predictive analysis we have heuristic evaluation and according to, heuristic
evaluation means a specialized usability inspection method for software, web
application or mobile application which supports in figuring out usability problem
particular at the user interface design.

Jakob Nielsen's 10 general principles for interaction design are listed below:

• Visibility of system status

• Match between system and the real world
• User control and freedom
• Consistency and standards
• Error prevention
• Recognition rather than recall
• Flexibility and efficiency of use
• Aesthetic and minimalist design
• Help users recognize, diagnose, and recover from errors
• Help and documentation

While preforming predictive analysis we will be performing two different techniques to

figure out the perspective of user with Adidas and Nike site. Here we will be performing
cognitive walk-through and expert walk-through.

(Cognitive Walkthrough | Usability Body of Knowledge, 2021) According to, Cognitive

walk-through means the evaluation technique where we ask out evaluator to go through
series of task and ask some question from the perspective of user. Here we will be
preparing some questionnaire.

Similarly, in expert walk through we will be taking help of an expert and ask him/her to
figure out the potential problem that they figure out while analyzing both of the site.

ANUP SAPKOTA | HUMAN COMPUTER INTERACTION 7

USABILITY EVALUATION PORTFOLIO

The questionnaire that will be prepared so that we perform predictive analysis will be on
following topic:

• Colors used in website

• Selection of fonts and their sizes

• Content of navigation bar

• Smoothness of navigation bar

• Responsiveness of the site

• Easiness of the language used

• Information given to user and its relevancy

Usability testing:
(What is usability testing? | Experience UX, 2021) The study of testing the easiness
while performing certain activity is defined as usability testing. Here users are asked to
perform certain task being on the supervision of researcher and they are monitored on
every step so that the problem encounter by them can be monitored and then
recommendation can be made for that particular problem. The questionnaire that will be
prepared so that we perform usability testing will be on following topic:

• Load time of the website

• Load time to move from one page to another

• View in mobile devices

• Difference while changing the font sizes

Participant User Profile:

The participant that are involved in these surveys are 18 above individuals who are
enamored with purchasing different items and are associated with various occupations.
The fundamental goal of doing the review in web-based shopping loving circle is of
getting more data and downside in the framework with the goal that we could condemn

Analyzing collected data from Usability testing:

After the information is gathered for usability testing, we are going to investigate the
obtained data from our members. The main assignment was to open both of the site in
two distinct programs and afterward the time was recorded. After an ideal opportunity
for two distinct programs was taken, the normal burden time for the site was determined
and subsequently the normal burden time for Nike was 6.123 seconds and Adidas were
4.751. The subsequent undertaking was to open various pages from various area or
returning to the underlying page. Here we determined the normal burden time for each
site and accordingly we came to realize that the normal burden time for each page
came out to be 6.567 seconds for Nike and 3.972 for Adidas. Because of the hefty
utilization of realistic and pictures in Nike, the site was setting aside nearly longer effort
to open the site.

In task 3, we expanded and decline the text dimension so we can check the text
dimension in various program zoom in/out choice. The consequences of Nike in normal
came out to be great as the image and substance were straightforward in any event,
expanding and diminishing the text dimension, while the outcome for Adidas came out
to be moderate as a portion of our member were experiencing difficulty in sorting out the
substance and pictures client. Here in task 4, we determined the parchment time in both
work area and portable site so we could gauge the substance length recommended in
landing page and we concocted normal consequence of 8.343 seconds in Nike and
7.055 seconds in Adidas.

Similarly, in task 5 we asked out participant to rate their navigation which is performed
with their single hand. As a result, navigation for Nike came up with result of being good
whereas participant rated adidas to be moderate in terms of navigation with their single
hand. In task 6, we asked user to measure the responsiveness of both the site in their
tablet and phone. As a conclusion we got a result of Nike to be responsive in both of the
device and adidas not to be responsive and some content of their site were hidden.

Predictive analysis report:

To find the legitimate solution, I for one utilized the assistance of emojis with various
articulation. The determination of the emojis is really the articulation that they feel while
they answer the inquiry for the look and feel of particular site. Here I have chosen five
emojis which implies:

Emoticons Emoticon meaning Point

Happy 5
🙂 Smiley 4
Satisfactory 3
☹ Sad 2
Angry 1

Here I have also given points for each emoticon so that we can actually get a final result

expected and the data are likewise discovered to be pertinent in the two locales
alongside adequate data. In term of feeling of control, individuals favored Nike instead
of Adidas. The most featured theme in term of portable site is about the responsiveness
while opening site in cell phones like tablets and cell phone. As indicated by member,
substance of Nike stows away and seems a left to right slider bar in both portable and
tablets which clears characterize that Adidas site in cell phone isn't responsive.
However, text dimension and picture for the two destinations were amazing while at the
same time surfing in cell phone.

Recommendation for Nike:

As most of our participant are complaining about the scattered navigation bar, the first
recommendation will be categorized navigation bar. This will certainly help user in faster
navigation. Similarly, less graphic can be used so that it reduces the page load time.
Use of modal in sign in or registration page can motivate user to sign up as well as
reduces waiting time.

Recommendation for Adidas:

For adidas, participants mentioned about the color used in the site. Most of our
participant doesn’t prefer color used here. The color used in adidas didn’t have any vibe
that reflect online shopping. The dark color will certainly help visitor to have some vibe
of being in online shopping. Similarly, the navigation bar doesn’t show much
information. The navigation bar can be made with lot more information like in Nike. In
content to mobile site, most of our participants noticed the mobile site is not responsive
and some portion in right need to be manually dragged left. The site must be made
responsive so that mobile user also tends to get attracted to the feature it is providing.

Conclusion, Reflection, Further work and References

Conclusion:
To close, I have applied prescient examination method and ease of use strategy where
my undertaking explicit was identified with prescient investigation, which is one of the
quality pointers in ease-of-use procedure. Issues were examined and arrangements
were prescribed to additional improve the sites.

Reflection:
For the purpose of evaluation of website, certain tasks were done according to usability
testing. I have selected the five number of participants and asked them to fill up the
consent form. Every participant has got the task according to the breakdown. With the
help of usability testing all the required information were collected. It clearly shows that
Adidas have more problems than that of Nike website. But in adidas most of the options
are visible on front page. There should not be any problem regarding navigation bar. It
has to follow the consistency and standard evaluation rule to make system more
effective. Navigation bar should be justified according to user necessity. During the
process of sign in, user should not be got puzzled. The review and rating bar of Nike
should be on the front to let the user know that they are actually on the online shopping

website whereas, the review process of Adidas must be much easier to let everyone
review accordingly.

In this modern era, technology is being more advanced day by day in order to make
effortless and effective work. In any project, evaluation is considered as one of the most
important factors in the field of information technology. We can add different facilities in
order to reduce time effort like social media login, chatting bot and many more.

Further Work:
Several problems were found during evaluation testing with the help of usability testing
and predictive analysis. These methods are used to compare different site performance
and design interface of the websites. Lately, it helps to find out usability problems of the
participant users.
To evaluate this website, there are some different techniques that can be taken for
evaluation. One of them is cooperative evaluation where participants are motivated to
criticize the interface design of the websites. Here the identified problems are recorded
and can be used in future work. These collected usability problems will be very useful
for future research.
