To me defamiliarization has something to do with removing objects from the automatism

of perception. The art achieves defamiliarization when it is achieved if the style, structure, or
theme is presented in a strange and/or unfamiliar way; as long as that presentation causes the
reader to slow down, reconsider, and actively engaged with it. Readers might interpret such word
being presented by the author in a different view. Perhaps, the "Body Ritual Among the
Nacirema," by Horace Miner, an American anthropologist. Miner tricks readers into believing in
this text that they are reading about a little-known North American clan. Many readers fail to see
that Miner genuinely represents them by the use of such incredibly negative diction. In his
article, although never revealed, Nacirema backward spells American. Readers are required to
defamiliarize themselves, something which is inherently difficult.
