SITE CONTEXT
Noise – Since the airport is at a distance of 8km from the site ,the noise comes from the
runway during the takeoff and landing of the flight.
Odour-There is a village adjoining the periphery of the site (existing settlements),so the
site at present is used for the grazing of cows because of which there is an odour of
cowdung on the site as well as on the road leading to the site.
• Since the development around the site is still in process there is no as such high
concentration of human population around the site so the drainage channels are used
for collecting for rainwater which may later lead to bad odour after the development if
not maintained well.
Pollution –Pollution may increase later due to future expansion.
Smog-Pollution may lead to smog
Smoke –no signs of smoke

WIND DIRECTION

Site micro climate

Wind rose diagrams

1. For Kolkata, the direction of prevailing winds is from South, South-west and South-east.
Wind speeds do not exceed 20km/h except in April and May (40 to 50 km/h)
2. Site is adjacent to a large body of water. Water heats and cools slower than land, so site
will be cooler when overall temperature of the city is high. The temperature range will be
narrowed down and closer to the comfort zone..
3. The direction of wind is from North-East, passing over the lake in Eco park to the site. Even
as the direct sunlight reduces with the onset of monsoon, the heat does not reduce. This is
compensated for with strong cool winds from the north east.
4. Cross ventilate spaces and orient openings towards wind for maximum intake.
5. Openings should be large and fully operable. Openings on the opposite wall should also be
similarly sized.
