Parkinson's disease in traditional Chinese medicine

Traditional Chinese medicine is gaining attention because of its unique theoretical bases (ie, Yin-Yang
and Five-Element
theories), which differ substantially from the bases of Western medicine. Traditional
Chinese medicine emphasises the importance of boosting the individual's endogenous
healing ability
via preventive, holistic, and health-preserving approaches, using
formula prescriptions, natural
products, acupuncture, and physical exercise. In 2018,
for the first time, WHO included traditional
Chinese medicine in its influential global
medical compendium. Parkinson's disease-like symptoms
have been described at length
in ancient Chinese medicine books and the use of many ancient
remedies is still popular
in China nowadays, both for prevention and treatment of Parkinson's disease.
