1. What is Data Privacy Act in the Philippines?

- Republic Act No. 10173, otherwise known as the Data Privacy Act is a law that seeks to protect
all forms of information, be it private, personal, or sensitive. It is meant to cover both natural
and juridical persons involved in the processing of personal information.

2. What is the purpose of Data Privacy Act of 2012?

- “to protect the fundamental human right to privacy of communication while ensuring free flow of
information to promote innovation and growth [and] the [State’s] inherent obligation to ensure that
personal information in information and communications systems in government and in the private
sector are secured and protected”.

3. Why is data protection important in healthcare?

- Data protection regulations ensure the security of individuals' personal data and regulate the
collection, usage, transfer, and disclosure of the said data.
