HARANA, the Philippine Opera Company's official cultural arm, is made up of eight
singers, each of whom is an accomplished soloist in his or her own right. Harana is the
Filipino word for serenade, a traditional form of courtship in which a man woos a
woman's affections by singing beneath her window. From children's songs to tribal
chants, planting songs to courtship ditties, stirring kundiman to Sylvia la Torre's
delightful showstoppers.
