Operating Handbook
Use of Operating Handbook
The CAE SimuFlite Operating Handbook is both a training aid for the simulator
and a practical tool for the cockpit. This handbook is comprised of four
sections.
The aircraft preflight section (P-pages) are inserted in vinyl sleeves for
increased durability and ease of page replacement. This section is an
abbreviated listing of major items to be checked on preflight inspection.
The normal procedures section (N-pages) are inserted in vinyl sleeves for
increased durability and ease of page replacement. The checklists provided
are CAE SimuFlite developed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). If
your company has its own SOPs, you may replace the CAE SimuFlite SOPs
with your own SOPs.
The flight planning section (F-pages) contains charts and graphs to facilitate
flight planning.
The emergency/abnormal procedures section (E-pages) contains checklists
for emergency and abnormal situations. All immediate action (memory)
items are printed in red; procedures with immediate action items also have
red titles. This section may be accessed in one of three ways: by table
of contents (EMER tab, front), by system tab (front), or by numbered tab
(back).
DEFINITIONS
Land As Soon As Possible: Land at the nearest suitable airport. Extreme
situations could require an off-airport landing. Primary consideration is safety
of occupants.
Land As Soon As Practical: Land at a suitable airport. Primary consideration
is the urgency of the emergency or abnormal situation. Continuing to the
destination or an alternate with appropriate service facilities may be an option.

FACTORS
Note:
1) The published limiting maximum tailwind component for this
airplane is 10 Kts; however, Cessna does not recommend landings
on precipitation-covered runways with any tailwind component.
Normal landing distances are determined from Section IV of the FAA
Approved AFM, Figure 4-32.

3. Amperage – NOTE DECREASE
After 30 seconds to 2 minutes:
4. Battery Voltage – CHECK FOR DECREASE
Voltage should be at least one volt less than generator voltage. Monitor
battery overheat annunciator for possible change.
627+ If amperage decreases:
5. Battery Switch – OFF
Voltmeter is inoperative. Emergency bus is powered by generators.
If BATT O’HEAT/O'TEMP light goes out:
5. Battery Switch – BATT
6. Land As Soon As Practical
If no amperage decrease or BATT O’HEAT/O'TEMP light flashes with
BATT switch in EMER:
With generators OFF and battery switch in EMER, the main battery provides
30 minutes of operation for the following:
Engine N1 tape with throttle positioned above 50% N1
Standby gyro (battery pack) (627+ Co-pilot Instrument Lighting)
Cockpit floodlights
Comm 1, Nav 2
627+: LH/RH audio panels
682+: Co-pilot Pitot/Static Heat

EFIS/Flight Instruments
• Co-pilot ADI, airspeed, altimeter, and vertical velocity
• Single: DG-2, HSI-2, Co-pilot ADI
• Dual: DG-1, RMI-2, Nav 2 Repeater (OBS) (refer to standby gyro
for attitude information)
Fuel Implications
• If crossfeed was in operation, the fuel system fails to Normal Fuel
Transfer (Motive Flow). Crossfeed valves remain open.
Environmental Implications
• Pressurization control fails to normal flow control; if EMER, LH, or
RH was selected, normal flow control resumes
Anti-Ice Implications
• Engine anti-ice bleed air fails to ON engine cowl ring and stator
vanes are heated (for power settings, refer to Engine Anti-Ice ON
tables)
• Windshield bleed air is on with no temp control (Manual valves
only)
• Wing Heat and Deice boots inoperative
Engine Implications
• Engine Fire Detection and Suppression System Inoperative
• The step modulator is inoperative; engine may be slow to
accelerate from idle power
• Thrust reversers inoperative
Hydraulic Implications
• No normal gear control or warning: refer to Landing Gear Does Not
Extend, Page E-52
• Speedbrakes inoperative; if extended, they will blow down to trail
• Thrust reversers inoperative
Brakes/Anti-Skid Implications
• Anti-skid and power brakes inoperative: multiply landing distance
by 1.6
• Emergency brakes only available
Flight Control Implications
• Flaps are inoperative: Refer to FLAPS INOPERATIVE
APPROACH/LANDING Procedure (Page E-44)

SPEEDBRAKE ADVISORY
FLAPS INOPERATIVE
AOA and/or stick shaker system failed. AOA computer flags the AOA indicator
and/or slow/fast indication on EADI. Slow/fast indicator and stick shaker may
be unreliable.
Rudder:
1. Utilize rudder trim
2. After touchdown, lower the nose and deploy speedbrakes as soon as
possible
Note: Use of thrust reversers during landing rollout is not
recommended.
Aileron:
1. Use rudder for directional control limiting bank angle to 15° maximum. Do
not use aileron trim except for gross adjustments
2. If possible, choose a runway with least possible crosswind
3. After touchdown, lower the nose and deploy speedbrakes as soon as
possible
Elevator:
1. Use manual elevator trim wheel for primary pitch control. Do not use
electric trim
2. Make small pitch and power changes and set up landing configuration
early
3. After landing, select speedbrakes and brake as soon as possible
Warning: Do not deploy thrust reversers during landing rollout.
SPIN RECOVERY
Intentional spins are prohibited and were not conducted during flight tests
of the aircraft. Should a spin occur, the following recovery procedures are
recommended.
1. Throttles (both) – IDLE
2. Yoke – NEUTRALIZE
3. Rudder – FULL IN OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF SPIN
As rotation slows:
5. Rudder – REMOVE INPUT WHEN ROTATION STOPS
6. Pull Out Of Dive With Smooth, Steady Control Pressures

DITCHING
Ditching is not approved under FAR 25.801 and was not conducted during
certification testing of the aircraft. Should ditching be required, the following
procedures are recommended.
Preliminary:
1. Bleed Air Selector – OFF
2. Radio – MAYDAY
3. Transponder – EMER
4. Locator Beacon – EMER
5. ATC – ADVISE
6. Passenger Advisory Lights – PASS SAFE
7. Prepare Passengers for Ditching
8. Rate of Descent – 200/300 ft./minute
9. Ditching Heading – Parallel to Major Swell System
Approach:
1. Landing Gear – UP
2. Flaps – LAND
3. Approach Speed – VREF
Note: Plan approach to parallel any uniform swell pattern and
attempt to touch down along a wave crest or just behind it.
If the surface wind is very strong or the water surface rough
and irregular, ditch into the wind on the back side of a wave.
Water contact:
1. Aircraft Pitch Attitude – Slightly higher than Normal Landing Attitude
2. Reduce airspeed and rate of descent to a minimum, but do not stall the
airplane
3. Throttles – OFF just prior to water contact and contact water on a crest of
a swell, parallel to the major swell
After water contact:
Under reasonable ditching conditions, the aircraft should remain afloat
an adequate time to launch and board life rafts in an orderly manner.
Warning: The main cabin door should remain closed and
evacuation made through the emergency exit.
