IN-SERVICE TRAI NING HI GHLI GHTS

eachers are facing new challenges and changes in the

education world and it’s important for teachers to equip
themselves with new knowledge and skills by attending in-service
training in order for them to play an important and effective role as an
educator. Besides that, the effectiveness of in-service training is
important to ensure that the training is suitable and bring positive
effect to the teachers. The effectiveness of the in-service training is
influenced by the role of administrator, teacher’s attitude, needs
analysis and strategies used in the training program.

In accordance to Deped annual implementation of In-Service Training, the teaching staff of

Pedro S. Tolentino together with their School Head, Ronald M. Enriquez, Principal III, held it’s own
school-based seminar to facilitate professional training and learning opportunities for teachers with
the theme “Radiating the Spirit of Love and Gratitude to Our Philanthropies and Everyday Heroes”.
The training covered five days from December 14-18,2020.
A s educators gear with the “new normal” set-up in
this coronavirus pandemic, this is the appropriate
time to use our discomfort to forge a new paradigm. This is
now the time for schools to ensure that teachers do not
just translate what they do inside the
classroom into their new learning
modalities teachings.
Educators need to design
assessment and grading systems and
think on their purposes and priorities.
Encouraging student learning is the
best and not just let students
accountable for their own learning.
Mentors must think that in times of
remote learning, continuous feedback
from students on their learning can
help them reflect on their strengths.

With the support from parents and communities, teachers and students
are carrying on with their respective endeavors as well as they can. In watching
them, we’re all reminded of what learning and teaching entails: the mysteries
embedded in each of the subjects, the lectures, the assignments, the projects,
the questions, among so many others. But we have also realized that teaching
goes beyond these day-in-and-day-out activities in the countless moments
when we saw teachers go beyond the call of duty.
This crisis, however, may
provide a serious opportunity to
bridge the gap between the strong
appreciation, in theory, and the
challenging working conditions for
teachers, in practice.

This may be a unique occasion

to act on this newfound appreciation
for teachers to grant them more
standing status at the table discussing
education, working conditions, and
their own role in the epidemic’s
aftermath.
Studies have shown that
expressing your gratefulness toward
someone has many benefits including
raising your self-esteem, making you
happier, and also giving you a sense
of fulfillment in life.

The need for in-service education of

teachers cannot be underestimated. It is a
necessity in enhancing work performance
and motivation of teachers field. Absence
of in-service training of teachers will
retard professional growth of teachers as
well as “missing gaps” between demands
and actual achievement levels.
In all these tasks, strong school
leadership will be the key. The post —COVID19 phase will offer many
opportunities to “Build Back Better”, that is strengthen to deliver quality and
equity in school systems.
