1. (a) Area of shaded region = area of large rectangle – area of small rectangle
= (9 cm x 5 cm) – (3 cm x 4 cm)
= 45 cm2 – 12 cm2
= 33 cm2
(b) Area of shaded region = area of large rectangle – area of large rectangle
Area of large rect = 10 cm x 12 cm = 120 cm2
Length of small rect = 12 cm – (1 cm + 1 cm) = 10 cm
Width of small rect = 10 cm – (2.5 cm + 2.5 cm) = 5 cm
Are of small rect = 10 cm x 5 cm = 50 cm2
Area of shaded region = 120 cm2 – 50 cm2 =70 cm2
(c) Area of large rect = 15 x 15 = 225 cm2
Area of T-shape = (8 x 3) + (2 x 3)= 24 cm + 6 cm = 30 cm2
Area of shaded region =225 cm2 -30 cm2 = 195 cm2

2. (a) Area of rect = 13 x 7.5 cm2 = 97.5 m2

Area of triangle = (9 x 5)/ 2 = 22.5 m2
Area of shaded region = 97.5 m2 - 22.5 m2 = 75 m2
(b) Area of triangle = (14.4 x 12) / 2 = 86.4 m2
Area of rect = 3 x 3.5 = 10.5 m2
Area of shaded region = 86.4 m2 - 10.5 m2 = 75.9 cm2
(c) Area of rect =200 x 140 = 28000 m2
Area of 1st triangle = (39 x 52) / 2= 1014 m2
Area of 2nd triangle = (25 x 60) /2 = 750 m2
Area of shaded region = 28000 m2 – (1014 m2 + 750 m2) = 26236 m2

3. (a) Area of square = 10 x 10 = 100 cm2. Diameter of the circle = 10cm so radius =
5cm. Area of circle = 22/7 x 5 x 5 = 78.57 cm2. Therefore, the area of the shaded
region is: (100 – 78.57) cm2 = 21.43 cm2

(b) Area of Circle= 22/7 x 7 x 7 = 154 m2

The diagonal of the square is 14. Using Pyth. Thm. Side of square = 9.90 m
Therefore, the area of the square is 9.90 x 9.90 = 98 m2
The area of the shaded region = area of circle - area of square = 154 – 98 m2
= 56 m2

(c) Area of Square = 100cm2

The radius of each semi-circle must be half the side of the square. Therefore,
the radius is 5. Area of each semi-circle: (𝝅x 5 x 5 /𝟐cm2 = 39.29 cm2
Area of Shaded Region = area of square - both semi-circles: 100 – (39.29 x
2) cm2 = 21.43 cm2 to 2 d.p

4. Area of shaded area = Area of Rectangle – Area of Circle

Area of Rectangle = 20 cm x 11 cm = 220 cm2
Radius of circle = 8 / 2 = 4 cm, so Area of Circle = 22/7 (4)2 = 50.29 cm2 (to 2 d.p)
Hence, Area of Rectangle = 220 cm2 - 50.29 cm2 = 169.71 cm2
