Theory Questions based on Excel EX 1

Instruction: Answer the following questions, after completing the activity titled “Excel EX 1”.

1. What is the difference between a formula and a function?

● A formula is an expression which calculates the value of a cell. Functions are predefined
formulas and are already available in Excel.

2. You want to find the average of data in the range G4:H4. Write three calculations that
can be used to accomplish this (look at question 4 on Excel EX 1).
● =average G4:H4
● =(G4+H4)/2
● =sum(G4:H4)/2
3. What is the purpose of absolute referencing? (look at question 6 on Excel EX1)

● It points to a specific cell in a spreadsheet and absolute references do not change when
copied or filled.

4. List the steps to insert a new row.

● Right-click the whole row above which you want to insert the new row,
● select Insert Rows.
