1. Manhattan Project: was the code name for the American-led effort to develop a functional atomic

weapon during World War II which destroyed two Japanese cities.

2. Office of Price Administration: The OPA were originally to control money and rents after the outbreak of

World War II.

3. War Productions Board: Agency of the United states founded Roosevelt that supervised war production

during World War II

4. Rationing: to have a fixed amount of food or other supplies.

5. Operation Torch: was an allied invasion of French north Africa.

6. Dwight D. Eisenhower: American General who began in North Africa and became the Commander of Allied

forces in Europe during WWII and later became the 34th president of the United States

7. D-Day: a name given to June 6, 1944---the day on which the Allies launched an invasion of the European

mainland during WWII

8. V-E Day: victory in Europe day. the day that the war in Europe was over.

9. Douglass MacArthur: United States general who served as chief of staff and commanded Allied forces in the

Pacific during World War II.


10. Island Hopping: A military strategy used during World War II that involved selectively attacking specific enemy-

held islands and bypassing others.

11. Kamikaze: Suicide bombers who flew their planes into Allied ships

12. J. Robert Oppenheimer: Scientist who led the Manhattan Project to develop nuclear weapons, known as

"Father of the Atomic Bomb".

13. “little Boy” and “Fat Man”: The fat man was the code name for Americans to build a atomic bomb, the little

boy was the codename for the atomic bomb dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima on 6 August 1945

14. Nuremburg Trials: The court proceedings held in Nuremberg, Germany, after World War II, in which Nazi

leaders were tried for war crimes.

15. Internment: Confinement or a restriction in movement. especially under wartime conditions.
