Research Proposal

1) Introduction

“ Language is our primary source of communication, therefore knowing English

is very important in modern world." - Lalitm Shukla - It is undeniable that English

is extensively used as an international language as the result of being spoken

popularly by foreign language speakers. As a consequence, a vast array of

Vietnamese students choose English language as their major while studying at

universities. Like others subject English have it own difficulty specially in learning

speaking. To investigate more about this problem. A research problem has been

carrying out at Banking University : Challenges/ Difficulties learning speaking of

second- year English major students at Banking University has been made to

investigate this problem.The purpose of this study is to identify what are the

difficulties second-year English major student have when they speaking English,

aim to find out the nature cause of these problems and suggest some solutions

that can conquer the difficulties. The study aims to second-year students studying

English major at Banking University . Because they are no longer in a

intermediate level , they will begin step in academy level which require higher skill

and knowledge specially speaking skill , the most important and difficult in four

skill ( zhang 2009) .

Research questions: 

+ What are the problems that occur whereas second-year English major

students in  speaking in class?

+ What are the problems student English  majors have when they speak daily

life?

+ Why do they have such problems ?

+ What have  they done to deal with  the problem ?

Research objectives:

+ To determine the difficulties second-year English major students face while

speaking in class

+ To determine the difficulties second-year English major students face while

speaking in daily life

+ To discover the reasons that lead to these problems

+ To know what ways they use to deal with these problems

5) Significance

This study will identify what challenges and difficulties can impact communication

skill. Thus student can compare with themself and know whether they have the

same problems or not. By this they can design or find appropriate study technique ,

plan so as to develop their level of speaking.
