NOTES GRADE III

TOPIC –MULTIPLICATION Class work & Home work

INTRODUCTION
Multiplication is just a repeated addition.
Eg: 5 + 5+ 5 = 15
3 groups of 5 = 15
3 times of 5 = 15
3 x 5 =15

Terms of multiplication
 In a multiplication, the number to be multiplied is
called the multiplicand.
 The number by which we multiply is called the
multiplier.
 The result obtain after the multiplication is called the
product.

Eg: 12 x 8 = 96
Here 12 is multiplicand, 8 is the multiplier and
96 is the product.

Properties of multiplication
1) Order property: If we change the order of the
numbers, the product remains the same.
Eg: 9 x 4 =36 4 x 9 = 36
Therefore, 9 x 4 = 4 x 9
2) Multiplicative property of 1: When any number is
multiplied by 1, the product is the number itself.
Eg: 8 x 1 = 8 , 1 x 5 = 5 , 3201 x 1 = 3201
3)Multiplicative property of zero:
The product of any number with 0 is always 0.
Eg: 2 x 0 = 0 , 6 x 0 = 0 , 75 x 0 = 75
Using the properties of multiplication, fill in the blanks:
1)21 x 5 = ……. X 21
2) 5018 x ……. = 26 x 5018
3) ….. x 1 = 1 x 241
4) 814 x ……. = 814
5) .….. x 1 = 5484
6) 241 x …….. = 0
7) …. x 32 = 0
8) 0 x 2581 = ….....
