Uilean Jesus Comes to Jerusalem Jesus came to Jerusalem riding on a donkey. People laid palm branches on the road. They shouted and sang, "Praise God. Bless the King who comes in the Name of the Lord!" They remembered what the Bible said. "Look, your king is coming to you. He is humble, riding on a donkey." Everyone saw. "It’s Jesus!" they said. Jesus in the Temple The big temple was full of people. They had come to celebrate the Passover. The temple courtyard was full of noisy people buying and selling. Jesus pushed over their tables and shouted: "The Bible says, 'God's temple will be a place of prayer for everyone.' You have turned it into a den of thieves!" A big crowd came to listen to Jesus. He made their sick people well. Little children shouted, " Praise God for the Son of David !" The temple leaders were angry. They wanted to kill Jesus. Judas was one of Jesus’ friends. He came to them and said, "What will you give me if I help you?" They gave him thirty silver coins. The Last Supper Jesus was sharing the Passover meal with his friends. He took a towel and washed their feet. “No!" Peter said. “This was a servant’s job!” Jesus said, "Be like me. You must help and serve others.“ Jesus said to Peter, "Before the cockerel crows tomorrow morning, you will say you do not know me." Jesus took a loaf of bread, broke it up and gave it to his friends. "This is my body given for you," Jesus said. "Do this to remember me." Jesus took a cup of wine, gave it to his friends and said, "This is my blood which will forgive many peoples' sins." Today Christians still share bread and wine to remember that Jesus died on the cross to forgive them. Peter's Denial That night Jesus prayed in a garden. His friends were asleep. Soldiers came, led by Judas. They arrested Jesus. His friends all ran away. Peter followed them to a house. He waited outside. A servant girl said, "You were with Jesus." "No!" Peter said. He was scared. "I saw you," someone said. "No!" "You are one of Jesus' friends." Peter shouted, "I don't know Jesus!" Peter heard a cockerel crow. He remembered what Jesus had said. He ran away and cried. Jesus dies on a cross Pilate ordered Jesus to be killed on a cross. Soldiers put a crown of sharp thorns on his head, laughed and whipped him. They nailed Jesus to a cross between two thieves. "Forgive them, God !" Jesus said. The sky went dark, the ground shook and the big temple curtain was torn apart. Jesus died. Jesus’ friends took his body and laid it in a tomb. Jesus is alive! (Easter Sunday) Early Sunday morning, Mary went to Jesus' tomb. The big stone door was open. The body was gone. Where was Jesus? Mary cried. She saw two angels. "Why are you crying?", they asked. Someone said, "Mary." It was Jesus! He was alive! That evening Jesus met with his friends. They were so happy! SYMBOLS OF EASTER
