Group Communication 2020
Summary:
We participate in groups and teams at all stages and phases of our lives, from play groups, to
members of an athletic team, to performing in a band, or performing in a play. We form
groups based on personal and professional interests, drive reduction, and for reinforcement.
Through group and team work we can save time and resources, enhance the quality of our
work, succeed professionally, or accomplish socio-political change.
As you recall, a group is composed of three or more people who interact over time, depend
on each other, and follow shared rules and norms. A team is a specialized group which
possesses a strong sense of collective identity and compatible and complimentary resources.
There are two general types of groups depending on the intended outcome. Primary groups
are formed to satisfy our long-term emotive needs. Secondary groups are more performance
based and concern themselves with accomplishing tasks or decision making. Personal growth
groups focus on specific areas of personal problem solving while providing a supportive and
emotionally positive context. Learning groups are charged with the discovery and
dissemination of new ideas while problem solving groups and solutions.
Once a group comes together they go through typical stages (forming, storming, norming,
performing, and terminating) to develop roles, create a leadership strategy, and determine the
process for decision making. While numerous specific group roles exit, the four categories of
roles include: task, social-emotional, procedural, and individual roles. It is likely that
members will occupy multiple roles simultaneously as they participate in groups
An ideal size of small group in term of total interaction and greatest efficiency is usually
thought of as that of group members varies between five to nine. Another characteristic of
group is that each member is impacted by every member of the group.

Communication is an action, skill, and art that incorporate lessons tough across a wide
spectrum of human knowledge perhaps the most time honored form of communication is
stories telling. We have told each, other stories for age help to build sense of our world
anticipate the future and certainly to intersection ourselves.
Effective/ Feasible communication, in all many forms takes arrangement, exercise and
diligence. The classroom environment, with a complication of information and resources
such text can offer us a test run where we get to try out new ideas and skill before we have to
use to communicate effectively to make a sale, inspire our team members or build a new
partnership listening to ourselves or perhaps the comment of others, may help us reflect on
new ways to present or perceive, thought, ideas and concept. The net result is our growth;
ultimately our ability to communicate in terms and group will improve. Opening more doors
than we might anticipate.
What is group?
A Group is basically an assemblage of people. It can be understood as a collection of
individuals (two or more), who come together and interact with each other, so as to achieve
the objectives of the organization. These are the foundation of an organization.
Types of Group:
This article throws light on the two important groups found in an organization.
1. Formal Groups:
By formal groups, we mean those groups defined by the organization’s structure, with
designated work assignments and establishing tasks. In formal groups, the behaviors that one
should engage in are stipulated by and directed towards organizational goals.
(ii) These are created deliberately and consciously by the management to perform the
assigned duties.
(iii) The pattern of communication is also defined and the rules are laid down to regulate the
behavior of group members.
2. Informal Groups:
Informal groups are alliances that are neither formally structured nor organizationally
determined. These groups are natural formations in the work response to the common
4

interests of the organization members such as self defense, work assistance and social
interaction.
(i) The informal groups are formed by the members of such groups by themselves rather than
by the management.
(ii) These groups arise spontaneously in the organization because of social interaction
between the people.
(iii) These are based on common interests, language, taste, caste, religion, background etc.
(iv) These groups exist outside the formal authorities system and without any set rigid rules.
(v) Though officially unrecognized, these groups exist in the shadow of the formal structure
as a network of personal and social relations which must be understood and respected by the
management.
(vi) These groups have their own structure, with their own leaders, and followers, group
goals, social roles and working patterns. They have their own unwritten rules and a code of
conduct which every member accepts implicitly. Members trust and respect each other.
(vii) The informal groups are more flexible than the formal groups. Rules and procedures
being unwritten, they can change from situation to situation.
(viii) Since these groups concentrate on the personal contact between the members, they
represent the human side of enterprise as compared to technical side represented by the
formal groups.
There are a wide range of theories relating to Group development. Perhaps the most
influential model of group development has been that of Bruce Tuchman who created his
group model in 1965. Many academics and practitioners working with group have
adopted version of his model.

Forming: Members come together, learn about each other, and determine the purpose
of the group.
Storming: Members engage in more direct communication and get to know each
other, Conflicts between groups members will often arise during stage.
Forming: Members establish spoken or unspoken rules about how they communicate
and work. Status, rank and rules in the group are established.
Adjourning: Members leave the group. The group may cease to exist or it may be
transformed with new members and a new set of goals.
Effective communication is key to organizations problem solving ability. The world we live
in is becoming increasingly complex. We have all at one time or another been exposed to
information that was ‘’over our heads’’, utilizing unintelligible jargon, unfamiliar concepts,
obtuse wording or complicated technical data. Effective communication breaks down those
barriers and helps groups to understand.

and understandable to the group and the output should be in good level by having a perfect
group communication
For maintaining organization there should be fact of loss or something like falling. In group
the problem of falling should be defined. Sometimes the group also thinks there is not falling
will be effect a lot and there unity is not good. So the solution of confident and working
perfectly can remove this problem.
In group problem the group the group problem one of the best solution is engaging the
participants. So that
3. Group Discussion: One of the best group problems solving method is group discussion.
So that the group can have their problem solution and can make a good use of discussion.
4. Skill Building: In group the skill should be build because if there group skill isn’t good
enough there will raise more group problem rather than group problem solution.
5. Assertiveness training: Training is the good way for perfect activities. In there are trained
people in group there will not arise some group problem and they will be able to make the
solutions if group problem arise.
6. Sharing practical solution: For operating organization organizer should show the
practical aspects which could happen and the occurrence and the solution. So that in group
problem they can implement it and be problem solved.
7. Exercise training: The system of exercise training factor should be included in the
organization so that they can exercise factor and can have a better output.
8. Reducing risk factor: In group problem solving method the perspective of reducing risk
factor should be generalized because where there is risk there should be problem of
7

organization as well as group. So the risk factor should be reduced for having a problem
solved group.
Positive Roles
Negative Roles
The group is together because they have a purpose or goal and normally they one individual
member could be on their own, so it would inefficient to hinder that progress. But a blocker,
Who cuts off collaboration does just that .If a Group member interrupts another and presents
a viewpoint or information that suggests different course of action, the point may be well
taken and serve the collaborative process. But if That same group member repeatedly engages
in blocker behavior, then the behavior communicator will learn to recognize the difference,
even when positive and negative aren’t completely clear.

Learning objectives----- By the end of this section, you will be able know-
1. Define teamwork and explain how to overcome various challenges to group success.
2. Describe the process of leader development.
3. Describe several different leadership styles and their likely influence on followers.
Teamwork: Teamwork is a compound word, combining team and work. Teams are a form
of group normally dedicated to production or problem solving. That leaves us with the
work. This where our previous example on problem solving can serve us well. Each
member of the team has skills, talents, experience and education.
Each is expected to contribute .work is the activity, and while it may be fun or engaging,
it also requires effort and commitment, as there is schedule for production with individual
and group responsibilities. Each member must fulfill his or her own obligations for the
team to succeed and the team, like a chain, is only as strong as its weakest member,
Teamwork is not without its challenges.
Upper Saddle River, NJ: Prentice Hall provide a valuable list to consider when setting up
a team, which we have adapted here for our discussion
Select team members wisely
Select a responsible leader
Promote cooperation
Clarify goals
Elicit commitment
Clarify responsibilities
In still prompt action
Apply technology
Leadership
Whether or not there is a “natural leader”, born with a combination of talents and tails that
enable a person to lead others, has been a subject of debate across time. In a modern context,
we have come to recognize that leadership comes in many form and representations. Once it
was thought that someone with presence of mind, innate intelligence, and an engaging
personality was destined for leadership, but modern research and experience shows us
otherwise. Just as a successful heart surgeon has a series of skill sets, so does a dynamic
leader. A television produces must both direct and provide space for talent to create,
balancing control with confidence and trust. This awareness of various leadership styles
serves our discussion as groups and teams often have leaders, and they may not always be the

person who holds the title, status or role. Leaders take on the role because they are appointed,
elected, or emerge into the role.
Entrepreneur Interview
To know more about conducting a business meeting we went to Bangladesh investment
development authority, where we met a women entrepreneur Miss Eva.Our team ask her
some frequent question about how she manage a group communication and solve problem by
brain storming.
10
Group Communication 2020
A (1): Group communication is important because it help me to integrate decision and brain
storming. Also its important cause by group communication I can gather vast ideas and
concept.
A (2): First I gather my members and give a clean concept about what we are about to do.
Members of group discuss the issue in between them and share a detailed concept and ideas.
After that we take a final decision by which the goal should be accomplished.
Q (3): Do you think that too much members causes problem in group communication:
A (3): There is no limited numbers in a group, So there is both positive and negative effect in
group for an increased number. Suppose more people means more ideas and concept but
sometimes it causes weak discipline and hard to communicate.
Thank You!
