POSITION SUMMARY: Spider Management Company (“Spider Management” or “Spider”) is the


investment office for the University of Richmond and a select group of other endowments and foundations.
Through a unique outsourced chief investment officer (OCIO) model, Spider Management has
approximately $5.5 billion in assets under management, representing $3 billion from the University of
Richmond and $2.5 billion from other non-profits including colleges & universities, independent schools,
community foundations, and cultural institutions. Spider Management is a dynamic and fast-paced
investment management firm, investing a single portfolio across public equity, hedge funds, absolute return,
venture capital, private equity, and real assets strategies. The Investor Relations Manager will be an
integral member of the team, focused on meeting the needs of Spider’s current and prospective investors
through the areas of reporting, communications, client service, branding, research, compliance, and
finance. Candidates should be investment savvy, process and service-oriented, analytical, and self-
motivated, with excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills, and client-facing experience.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Investor Relations, Client Service, and Marketing (75%)


• Develop and finalize presentations and reports for investors, prospects and consultants, including
proactively identifying content, data, graphics, analysis, as well as managing production and adherence
to compliance procedures
• Manage investor reporting process, working across teams to ensure accurate, on-time delivery of
monthly/quarterly investor communications, customized reports, and ad hoc requests
• Ensure investors’ needs are met with the highest level of service and attention; including interaction
with internal leadership (i.e. CFOs and Executive Directors) of investors on requests and questions,
upcoming meetings, quarterly reports, additions/withdrawals, and other needs
• Attend internal investment team meetings to maintain understanding of diversified portfolio to
proactively develop relevant content for investor reports and letters
• Participate in investor meetings to provide performance and business updates to investment committee
and board members
• Help support the firm’s efforts and communications regarding ESG and DEI
• Oversee the process to develop written responses to RFPs, incorporating relevant and accurate
financial data, and also managing the review, finalization and delivery steps
• Conduct research and analysis on investors, prospects and consultants, as well as meeting
preparation and follow-up
• Proactively identify and execute ways to improve client service, processes, design, and effectiveness
of communications, including how to use new technology to enhance the investor experience
• Track communications with investors, prospects and consultants; identify opportunities to update
systems or workflows to create efficiencies with inputs, improved accuracy, and more useful reports

Branding & Public Relations (10%)


• Oversee external website to enhance the usefulness, functionality, and visibility of the team and the
firm’s work to current and prospective investors
• Promote and enhance Spider Management’s branding and ensure consistency across
all communications; identify opportunities for enhancements or visibility when prudent

• Identify and help create thought leadership pieces on investment and endowment management topics
• Manage the annual report process, coordinating with investors and University of Richmond
resources to distribute an accurate, well-designed, and thoughtful yearly analysis of the investment
strategy

Event Planning (10%)


• Manage, plan, and coordinate the annual meeting for investors; including oversight of logistics,
preparation of speakers, and plans to support a positive experience for attendees and participants
• Organize virtual quarterly performance updates for investors; identify improvements to agendas, platform,
and speakers
• Lead communications with outside speakers and attendees of events regarding details and attendance
• Propose and organize ad hoc events and educational opportunities for investors
• Manage presentations for events, adhering to Spider Management guidelines and compliance
procedures

Special Projects (5%)


• Manage, support, or lend guidance to special projects, which may include research, project
management, design, vendor management, technology enhancement, community relations,
volunteerism, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Preferred investor relations experience, particularly work related to managing a client reporting process
• Excellent communication skills, including public speaking and writing skills
• Investment understanding and analytical skills
• Outstanding client service skills, preferred experience in client-facing roles
• Branding, messaging, and marketing skills
• Ability to develop charts, analysis, and visuals to reflect financial data
• Ability to effectively distill and communicate complex information to a range of audiences
• Deep expertise in Microsoft Office, with particularly advanced skills in PowerPoint (or other
presentation platforms); preferred knowledge of Adobe programs
• Ability to manage and advance multiple tasks and responsibilities at the same time with a keen attention
to detail
• Project management skills, preferred experience working across departments
• Creative thinker with ability to identify and execute new ideas
• Ability to work independently and within a team of professionals in a fast-paced environment
• 5+ years of related work experience required
• Bachelor’s degree required
