DAY TO CELEBRATE AND ACKNOWLEDGE THE DIFFERENCES AND RICHNESS

IN OUR LANGUAGE, CULTURE AND TRADITIONS.

Language of a region is the window to cultures and traditions of a place. It makes us
aware of the richness of our culture and how unique we are from each other.
However, in daily life, we are mostly surrounded by two languages, Hindi or English.
When we speak to someone in our immediate environment, we mostly use these two
languages to communicate. We completely forget that we come from different
backgrounds, and it is this difference that makes us unique. To celebrate these different
languages , which celebrates our diverse cultures, Manav Rachna dental college
celebrated the International Mother Language Day.
This day is celebrated worldwide on 21st February, to promote awareness of linguistic
and cultural diversity, and to promote multilingualism. It was declared as the
International Mother Language Day by UNESCO in 1999, and has been observed
throughout the world since 21st February, 2000.

seekhaye det” (meaning – learnt to struggle from my father, and morals from my
mother. The rest was be taught by the world) and
“karat karat abhyaaske jarmit hoth sujaan, rasri aavat jaat ke, sil par parat nishaan”
(Keep practising. One day you will succeed).
Reshma RK, another final year student shared some lines in her mother tongue
Malayalam- “ Mahrubhasyil samvadhikumbol athu hridhayathil sweekarika pedunnu.
Matthu bhasha yuvumbo thalachorilum sweekarikapedum” ( If you talk to a man in a
language he understands, that will go to his head. If you talk to him in his own language,
that goes to his heart).
