Valve timing procedures
Removal/refitting requires:
Engine removal.
Timing belt removal.
Engine at TDC No.1 cylinder.
Ensure timing mark on high-pressure fuel pump sprocket aligned with timing mark on timing gear cover [1].
Turn crankshaft anti-clockwise to 30° BTDC on No.1 cylinder.
Ensure ground tooth on high-pressure fuel pump gear [2] aligned with notch in timing case [3].
Lock two-piece high-pressure fuel pump gear with M6 bolt [4].
To install high-pressure fuel pump gear, proceed as follows:
Mark position of ground tooth on high-pressure fuel pump gear with paint before installation [5].
Mark 10th and 11th teeth with paint counting clockwise from ground tooth [6].
Ensure engine at 30° BTDC on No.1 cylinder.
Align timing marks on crankshaft gear and auxiliary gear 1 [7].
Align timing marks on auxiliary gear 1 and balancer shaft gear 1 [8].
Align timing marks on crankshaft gear and auxiliary gear 2 [9].
Align timing marks on auxiliary gear 2 and auxiliary gear 3 [10].
Align timing marks on auxiliary gear 3 and balancer shaft gear 2 [11].
Align timing mark on auxiliary gear 3 and painted teeth on high-pressure fuel pump gear [12].
Ensure ground tooth on high-pressure fuel pump gear [2] aligned with notch in timing case [3].
Remove M6 bolt from two-piece high-pressure fuel pump gear [4].
