Hello there! I am SO excited that you are reading my lettering guide.

Thank you so much for

taking an interest in this incredibly fun and fleeting art.

This guide is for everyone. If you are an absolute beginner, there is information here
that will get you started and feeling comfortable in no time. If you have been lettering for a
while, but want to clean up the look of your work, this guide will be helpful to you as well!

You can use this guide two ways: first, you can print it off and use your own brush
pen to trace over the guides as many times as you need. The files are yours to print over
and over! You may not resell them. I highly recommend using a smaller, firmer brush pen if
you are a beginner. If you are looking for some recommendations on which pens are my
absolute favorites and I could never do without, head over to my website,
penseekingpaper.com and you will find some more information on good papers, pens, and
other fun tips and tricks. Second, if you have an iPad that has an Apple pencil, you can
download the mind-blowing Procreate app and use this guide in Procreate. You can either
screenshot these files, or download them into Procreate.

Learning the lettering skills that you see on social media where it appears that
people have robot-like stability and precision is not impossible. These people do not have
superpowers. It takes practice. It takes muscle memory and many hours of practice drills. I
did them in front of the TV at night for years. So here’s my advice, before we get going, once
more:

1. Practice as often as you can. Build the muscle memory. Master each letter, one at a
time. I remember working on the lowercase “a” for an entire afternoon until I got it
exactly how I wanted it.
2. Find lettering styles that inspire you and try to imitate them. Notice the patterns of
which onces you lean towards. Are they more classic? Are they quirky? Are they
gothic? Whimsical? Find your niche.
3. Save your work from your early days. You will be delighted when you look back in 6
months and see how much progress you have truly made! I still keep a photo of one
of my earliest pieces framed in my kitchen.

I am here for you. I didn’t make this guide to get rich. I made it because I LOVE lettering.
I love teaching it. If you have questions or need advice, send me an email! Thank you
again for giving my guide a chance. Now let’s get to lettering!
