I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards
 The learners demonstrate an understanding of the properties of substances that distinguish them
from mixtures.
B. Performance Standards
 The learners demonstrate an understanding of: investigate the properties of mixtures of varying
concentrations using available materials in the community for specific purposes.
C. Learning Competency
 distinguish mixtures from substances based on a set of properties (S7MT-Ie-f4)
D. Learning Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
 define substances and mixtures;
 classify substances and mixtures;
 create a video presentation of mixture using an experiment; and
 appreciate the value of mixtures and substances in life.

Abstraction
Teacher: Okay! Let’s see what is mixture.

 Mixtures are substances that consists of

combinations of two or more pure
substances, or different particles.
 Mixtures can be in the form of solids,
liquids, and/or gases, in any
combinations.
 Two types: Homogeneous and
heterogeneous mixtures.

substances. Now, what do you think is pure
substances?

Teacher: Good guess!

 Substances contains only one type of

particle.
 Substances don’t usually occur in their
pure form in nature, so in order to obtain
pure substances, people must refine raw
materials.
 Examples: Gold, Salt, Sugar, Diamond,
Hydrogen gas.

E. EVALUATION
A. Identify each material as either a mixture of pure substance:
 If the material is a mixture, tell whether it is homogeneous or heterogeneous.
 If the material is a pure substance, identify if it is an element of compound.

Generalization:
What is mixtures and substances? How it is important in our daily lives?
Mixtures is composed of two or more pure substances while substances are only one kind or particle that cannot
be separated. Mixtures and solutions are a common existence in our everyday lives. They are the air we breathe,
the food and drink we consume to survive our day to day needs. In short, mixtures and substances are the
compounds that made our life easier and better.

ASSIGNMENT:
Do a mixture experiment using substances that you can find in your home. Take a video of it while you
are doing the experiment and explain what happens to the experiment you have made. Your video may take up
to 3 to 5 minutes.
