Château La Dominique
CONTEMPORARY “CELL-ART”
WINE CELLARS
The Saint-Émilion Grands Crus Classés Château La
Dominique and Château Faugères are taking part in
a wave of architectural renewal among the vineyards,
with contemporary buildings that integrate
perfectly into the landscape. At Château Faugères,
the enormous, futuristic wine cellar designed by
Mario Botta plays with light, rising up as a veritable
contemporary cathedral dedicated to wine. The
wine cellar at Château La Dominique is of a different
style, with Jean Nouvel creating a stripped-back,
pareddown 600-m² cellar. Above the sumptuous
red multifaceted fermenting room lies the estate’s
restaurant, blessed with a panoramic terrace where
you can dine (gourmet set menu at €39) while
enjoying a 180° view over the vines of Saint-Émilion
and Pomerol.

LANDS OF
CONTEMPORARY ART
The lands of Graves and Sauternes give you a glimpse
of the wealth of opportunities and the diverse range of
wine tourism options found along all of the Bordeaux
Wine Routes. From illustrious Grand Crus Classés
like Château d’Yquem to small family properties,
the local winemakers have opted for unusual tasting
experiences, interactive tours, original workshops and
cultural offerings to break traditional wine traditions
and make their work more accessible to as many as
possible. At Château Smith Haut-Lafitte- a Graves cru
classé- we can learn about the work of a cooper, walk
“In the steps of a winemaker” or in the Forest of the
Senses, or roam a 10-hectare Land Art space where
you can enjoy the work of local artists. Here, we finish
with a tasting workshop they call “Lands of wine and
art”. There’s a similar vibe in the Jardin Millésimé

LAND OF WINE,
ART AND HISTORY
For more than a millenium, the history and
cultural identity of the Entre-Deux-Mers region
have been tied to the vine. Farms, hamlets and
fortified villages bear witness to the region’s rich
medieval past through their vestiges from the
Middle Ages: houses, mills, bastides, country
mansions and Romanesque churches and
more. A 47-km cycling track- “La Piste Roger
Lapébie”- was created in the 2000s along an old
railway between Latresne and Sauveterre-de-
Guyenne, allowing you to cross Entre-Deux-
Mers by bike and visit the fortified towns of
Créon and Sauveterre, as well as L’abbaye de
la Sauve Majeure: an old abbey built in 1079
and a masterpiece of Romanesque art, listed
as a UNESCO World Heritage in the Santiago
Compostela trail category. It was here that the
Benedictine monks first cleared the Silva Major
forest to plant vines and shape this viticultural
landscape that has stood the test of time.
