I. AUTHOR:
Palacio was born on July 13, 1963 in New York City. Her
birth name is Raquel Jaramillo (Palacio was her mother's
maiden name).
II. CHARACTERS:
Auggie Pullman- the main character of the novel
Isabel Pullman- A loving mother. Because of Auggie's
situation, she didn't balanced her time and attention for Via,
her daughter.
Nate Pullman- A supportive father. He always make sure
that Auggie will go to school.
Via Pullman- Auggie’s older sister
Jack Will and Summer- Auggie’s best friends
Julian Albans- the bully
Miranda- Via’s best friend
Daisy- the family’s dog
III. SETTING:
The Pullman family lives in a town house in present day
Upper Manhattan in New York City. Auggie's middle
school, Beecher Prep, is within walking distance from home.
IV. STORY:
August or "Auggie" Pullman, a ten-year-old boy living in
New York City, was born with a facial deformity that has
made it difficult for him to make friends. He lives with his
parents, and his older sister Via. He has been homeschooled
up until the fifth grade, but his parents have decided that it is
time for him to go to a real school.
When Jack puts two and two together and figures out what
Auggie overheard, he feels terrible. He really does want to
be Auggie's friend, but he got caught up in an attempt to be
accepted by kids like Julian. When Julian tells him one day
that being friends with Auggie is not worth it, Jack gets so
angry that he punches Julian in the face.
