Read the article about Death Valley. Then select True or False for each

statement.
Death Valley

Death Valley, east of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California, is a land

of extremes. It is the hottest place in North America. In the summer,
temperatures often go over 49 degrees Celsius (120 degrees Fahrenheit)
during the day and sometimes don't drop below 38 degrees Celsius (100
degrees Fahrenheit) at night.

Death Valley is also the driest place in North America. Average yearly
rainfall is less than 51 millimeters (2 inches). There are rivers in Death
Valley, but they only flow briefly during the winter – and only in very wet
years.

So why is Death Valley so hot and dry? The reason is its geography.
Parts of Death Valley are very low. The lowest place in the Western
Hemisphere is on the valley floor (86 meters – 282 feet – below sea
level). On all sides are high mountains. These mountains keep cool winds
and rain out of the valley.

Death Valley is a great distance from California's largest cities, but it is

one of the most interesting places in the state to visit. The best time to go
to this desert is during the coolest months – from November through
March.

37Death Valley is in Nevada.
