I spent a few weekends getting to the bottom of an overheating problem on our 10Hp MD2010.
Having upgraded all the seawater side with new impeller and cover I was still getting an overheat
alarm after prolonged WOT runs. I ended up cleaning out the Tubular heat exchanger no
improvement. Stripped HE out. Checked thermostat that is sandwiched between block and HE no
problem.

So I am beginning to think the circulation pump was U/S

Finally found the problem.

The closed circuit circulation outlet spigot(soft aluminium) on the heads side of the HE/Exhaust was
nearly completely blocked by corrosion. A couple of minutes with a round file and it was clear.
Flushed the closed circuit loads of rusty water came out. Turns out it is recommended to change
your closed circuit coolant (50% antifreeze Non OAT recommended) EVERY TWO YEARS......

It is possible to get this spigot out without removing heat exchanger..... You cannot see into it with it
in place but a smart phone camera could be used to see if it is blocked.

Removing the heat exchanger complete with the exhaust elbow is challenging because of the two
long studs that not only hold the heat exchanger on but also the control relay box. Also the sea
water strainer gets in the way and has to be moved aside along with the alternator.........

Hope this may be of help to others with the same symptoms. A new circulation pump is not cheap so
check the spigot for blockage before considering replacing it!
