Excited, Nervous
Personal Aims: To give instructions clearly, so the students perfectly know what I want from
them
Topic / Activities:
1- Prediction. They are shown a boomerang while I’m telling them that we are going to travel.
They will be putting Australia and what’s related to it in their minds.
2- Emerging vocabulary. Some new words will be in the text. The students are given these words
and the meaning, in a wrong order. I want them to match each word with its meaning
3- Reading for gist. The students have to read the text and answer 4 questions. These questions
are to test their general understanding of the text
4- Dealing with blocking language. The topic here are adjectives that we feel almost everyday
(worried, embarrassed, excited, nervous, disappointed, exhausted)
5- Reading for detail. The students are told to read the text again and to solve activity 4). This is
a tough one, but they will be searching for very specific information, so they will be definitely be
reading for detail.
6- Speaking. The students will be asked to tell their personal experiences travelling. They will be
told to use the vocabulary we have been learning in class (excited, nervous, embarrassed...)
Language Structures / Vocabulary:
At first, the vocabulary will be the emergent one: Intend - Turn out to be - Bend - Lack - Roughly
Activities 3) and 4) contain the vocabulary in the subsidiary aims. The students are expected to
identify Worried - Nervous - Excited - Exhausted - Disappointed and Embarrassed.
