2 Losel Doll Museum

Situated in Norbulingka Institute of Tibetan
Culture in Dharamsala (around 33 km from
Palampur), the
Losel Doll Museum features an exhibit of
intricately detailed, beautiful dolls. These
dolls illustrate the traditional clothing and
daily life of the people in each of the regions
of Tibet. The museum also displays dolls
relating to various religious events and
festivals. The Losel Doll project was started
in 1983 for preserving the tradition of
Tibetan costumes.
The museum houses a unique collection of
150 costumed dolls. These dolls were
created by a group of artistic monks from
Drepung Loseling Monastery. This
monastery has been re-established in South
India. Replicas of the dolls in the museum
are for sale and make for great showpieces.
3 Kangra Art Museum

Palampur in Kotwali Bazaar of Dharamsala,
Kangra Art Museum is a unique
museum displaying the artifacts of Tibetan
and Buddhist cultures, which reflect the arts,
crafts, history and culture of the people of
the Kangra Valley. Inaugurated in 1990, the
museum’s artifacts can be traced to as far
back as the 5th century. 
Kangra Art Museum has a library and a
separate section to display the works of
contemporary artists, sculptors and

photographers, and specimens of famous
Kangra Kalam works or the Pahari miniature
paintings, which are famous for the use of
seductive figures and fine colours.

The sturdy St John in The Wilderness
Church, with its exquisite stained glass
windows depicting John the Baptist with
Jesus, was among the first buildings to be
erected here by the British in 1852. It is now
the only surviving monument of that time —
most were destroyed in the devastating
