The Step by Step Process

1. Power on the light source.

2. Everytime you use a scope you have to follow the low to high rule.
3. Always begin focusing with the 4X objective.
4. Make sure the nose breeze is set to the scanning objective.
5. The station objective should be as far apart as possible.
6. Microscope has two eyepieces. You may see two overlapping circles of light so
adjust the width of the eyepiece until you see only one circle of light.
7. Adjust the diaphragm and the condenser to control the amount of light.
8. Use the stage controls to move the slide to the left, right, forward or backward
until the target specimen is in the center of your view.
9. Adjust the course focus until the image becomes mostly cleared.
10. Use the diaphragm to fine-tune the brightness and contrast of your view.
11. Use the fine focus to make the image sharp so that the borders of the specimen
are completely distinguishable.
12. Use immersion oil only with the 100X objective (oil immersion lens) in place.
13. For 100x objectives, put a drop of oil on the slide.
14. Look at the microscope from the slide and carefully use the fine-focus control to
make contact between the lens and the oil.
15. The lens should never touch the slide.
16. Adjust the posistion of the stage and the diaphragm to get the best view.
17. To wrap up, lower the stage to separate the oil immersion lens from the oil.
18. Remove the slide.
19. Clean the 100x objective lens with the lens paper.
20. Clean the eyepiece and stage with alcohol.
21. Always place the 4X objective over the stage and be sure the stage is at its
lowest position before putting the microscope away.
22. Always turn off the light before putting the microscope away.
23. Always wrap the cord correctly before putting the microscope away.
24. Always return the microscope to the correct cabinet.
25. Always place the oculars toward the back of the cabinet.
