This article focuses on the shift on using different types of social media among the
teenagers in America, highlighting the research findings. Added on this, the article draw
attention to the impact of security issue and access in social media. One of the authors,
Monica Anderson, is an associate director of Pew Research Center, whose most of the
works has focused on the ‘impact of digital divide, the role of technology in the life of
teenagers and activism in the age of social media’. On the other hand, Jingjing is the
former research analyst. The authors found that “95% teens have access to
smartphones and 45% are in online constantly”. However, it showed elaborately how
race, class and gender intersect with the access and use of social media. The authors
have highlighted the impact of social media privacy issue by quoting some respondents.
They found that a great number of teenagers are ignorant about the impact and most
of them reported that they are insecure about the privacy issue and identify that the
media detached them from reality. This article is relevant to address the security issue
of teenagers from their point of view, which is a talk of the topic in 21st century.
