LAB NO.2
OBJECTIVE:
To reproduce the Transient Response of 1 st order recruit by using Hardware components.

DESCRIPTION/THEORY:
In this lab, we will work on a hardware circuit which is basically a Resistor
Capacitor circuit i.e., RC circuit. We set the source voltage of 2.5V. In the first part of lab we set
the frequency and resistor constant and check characteristics of waveform on different values of
capacitor.

In the second part of lab, we set the frequency and capacitor constant and check
different characteristics of output wave at different values of Resistor. The value of tau can be
varied by changing either resistor or capacitor.

In this lab, we only generate square wave from function generator of 100Hz
frequency. So at different values of R and C, we measure the values of tau, Vc, Ic and exponential
term. Vc and Ic are the capacitor currents and voltages.

EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:
1. Oscilloscope
2. Function generation
3. Wires
4. Breadboard
5. Resistor and Capacitor

PROCEDURE:
1. Firstly, assemble circuit on breadboard.
2. Apply i/p signal to circuit from function generator.
3. The amplitude of i/p signal is 5Vp-p and frequency is100 Hz.
4. Connect CH1 to i/p signal and CH2 for o/p.
5. Use oscilloscope “cursor tool” to measure time constant.
6. Sketch wave forms on Graph paper.

CONCLUSION:
By using digital oscilloscope, we analyze the transient response of the Rc circuit. By varying the
values of capacitor and resistor we observed the variations in Vc and time constant(T). We use
CH1 for input and CH2 for the output.
