General information Dionysos.
 Son of Zeus
 God of wine and joy
 Roman name: Bacchus
 Attributes: vines, grapes and a panther.

Stories/myths about dionysos

Myth/story 1

Dionysos is the god of wine and joy. His roman name is Bacchus. Dionysos is the son of Zeus

and Semele, the daughter of the king Kadmos. Hera, the wife of Zeus, cannot take it

anymore. Because Zeus had I child with someone else. because of anger, hera decides to

visit Semele anonymously. Hera asks if Semele can ask Zeus to visit her.

And Semele did ask Zeus if she wants to visit her. Zeus said yes. When Zeus finally shows

himself under the thunder and the lightning, he killed his lover Semele. Zeus could save his

child just in time. Zeus takes the unborn child from the dying Semele and puts it in his leg.

The unborn child, Dionysus, stayed in Zeus’ leg until he was fully born.

Later Dionysos will get his mom out of the underworld and take her to Olympus.
Myth/story 2

In Phrygia and Lydia there was the official Greek


story of a deviant saga (traditional folk tale),
which the god is said to have been entrusted to
Rheia-Kybele for his education. When he was
an adult, he planted a vineyard, and with the
drink he obtained, he drank to himself and his
caretakers and the demons of the forest.
everyone who came to him was seduced by the
aroma of the wine with which Dionysos traveled
around the world. he also gained new strength,
which he gave to the people.

Dionysus and Demeter were worshipped at Eleusis, a little town
near Athens.
