SUBORDINATING CONJUNCTIONS

- the verb is placed at the end of the sentence.(VERB KICKER)

1. Independent sentence = der Hauptsatz

2. Dependent sentence= der Nebensatz

*the sentence with subordinating conjunction is the dependent

sentence.

example : My niece buy clothes because it is beautiful.

My niece buy clothes= Hauptsatz

Because it is beautiful= Nebensazt

weil= because nachdem= after
ob = if (in case) sobald= as soon as

 ADVERBIAL CONJUNCTIONS
- brings together two complete thoughts like a conjunction. They use the
second clause to modify the first clause like an adverb.

Common examples

dann= next, then auch= also

danach=afterwards,next sonst= otherwise

daher= that’s why, therefore trotzdem= however

deswegen= that’s why, therefore weiterhin= furthermore

darum= thats why, therefore des Weiteren= furthermore

deshalb= thats why, therefore folglich= consequently

dagegen= however

dennoch= nevertheless

SENTENCE PATTERN:

S + V + O, AC +V + S + O.

AC + V + S + O, V + S + O.

Example :

The patient cannot stand, that’s why the nurse supports him.

Der Patient kann nicht stehen, deshalb assistiert die
