Hi Trainer.

Due to the recent changes to S2 Cell from Level 12 to Level 13, I’ve look into eligible gyms and there
have been some changes.

So, first thing first, we don’t know if the changes is permanent. Also, no evidence of new gyms on updated
OSM data were picked this time, which mean Niantic still using 2016 OSM data. This is a great blow to players
without eligible features, such as Melaka and Seremban. We will discuss this after we look into each area.

One thing I want to make it clear, there are no known official criteria to triggering an EX Raid except that it has
to either be a sponsored gym or inside eligible feature from OSM 2016 data. There are no calculation,
measurement, or points known at the moment. To say otherwise is unethical as it might give the wrong
assumption to trainers out there. Example, if you said 40 trainers minimum needed to trigger it, then rural or
small community with less than 20 players will have their hope crush. Please be careful of this.

Kepong

Trainers in Kepong can rejoice (perhaps), with the changes to S2 Cell, B2 and C2, which previously in same
level 12 cell is now separated in level 13 cell, which give an additional EX Gym per wave. Although, the
downside to this, is that each gyms will host every other week, and not a back-to-back raid. Except for cell D2,
where 2 gyms are located inside, SD Mosque and Damar SD 15 Park, this gyms will probably rotate among
themselves as long as requirements met.
Kuala Lumpur

Local trainer in Kuala Lumpur has several things to celebrate with the recent change. Although cell A4 and C4
which house the most popular gyms is unaffected, we can see that the area at Tugu Negara and Perdana
Botanical Garden has received some great news.

With more cells in the location, players can expect at least 3 EX gyms that can host at the same time in that
location in a back-to-back waves. Target E2 area where Stonehenge and Blue Sundial gyms located, although,
Blue Sundial have never hosted an EX Raid before, which prompt me to hypothesize that maybe, like Lake
Symphony gym in C4 cell, the location where the gym is on top of also plays role in a gym’s eligibility.

D1 and D2 cell has 4 eligible gyms each, thus local trainers should focus only on 2 gyms to maximize resources
for a back-to back EX Raid. There is also another potential gym in cell D5, that’s located outside of the golf
course, Kampung Pandan Kuil, it is accessible from the main road, but it’ll be difficult to stop and raid there.
Ampang

Ampang trainers has successfully triggered 3 new gyms inside Taman Tasik Ampang Hilir. This will give them a
back-to-back EX Raid when the eligible gyms meet requirements.

Although, they are nothing new with the recent changes to level 13. All of Taman Tasik Ampang Hilir’s gyms
are located within a single S2 cell, they can’t host EX Raid at the same time, but they can give you back-to-back
EX Raid if requirements are met.
Cheras

In Cheras, the only good thing coming out from the changes of S2 cell is that Alam Damai Park now split into
2. However, Taman Tasik Permaisuri still within a single cell (A2), which means, they can only host 1 gym per
wave, but you can expect back-to-back EX Raid if requirements are met.

In Alam Damai, D3 and D4 cells split the park. D3 sees 2 gyms, Weird Little Duck and Damai Fountain. This will
be a good thing to Cheras trainers, because both gyms will rotate with each other to give a back-to-back EX
Raid if requirements met. Double Ring Tower in cell D4 will host EX Raid every other week, and while this is
might seem like a bad thing, its balance out with more gyms per wave.
Sri Petaling

Bukit Jalil has now become even more interesting. Before, it was only split into 2 Level 12 cell, but now, it has
been split into 4. This give advantage in terms of number of gyms it can host, with one wave where all 3 cells
can host EX Raid at the same, this will see 3 gyms hosting EX Raid at the same time.

Both A2 and B2 cell have 2 gyms that rotate with each other and give a back-to-back EX Raid, only cell A1 with
1 gym will host EX Raid every other week. This changes has make Taman Rekreasi Bukit Jalil even better.
Petaling Jaya

Few notable changes to PJ area. First at Cell F7 and F8, where this 2 gyms are previously in the same cell. This
means that now they can host EX Raid at the same wave, but will no longer host a back-to back raid.

Also noted the gym in Taman Aman, cell F5 and G5. Previously all the gyms in Taman Aman within single cell,
with this latest change, Taman Aman has been separated to 2 cells. Taman Aman South Arch is in cell G5 while
Taman Aman Skate Park in cell F5. This has make Taman Aman much better, able to host 2 EX Raids at the
same time.

Be aware of cell G6, where the gym inside, PJ Section 8 Playground previously within same cell with Taman
Aman and Kg Tunku SS1 Playground, but latest change make PJ Section 8 Playground an eligible gym that will
host every other week since it’s within its own cell.

Taman Permainan Kanak-Kanak SS3 is now within its own cell, G4. This will make it eligible for hosting EX
Raid every other week.

Unfortunately, Taman Bandaran Kelana park is still within a single cell, thus, all eligible gym will host EX Raid
back-to-back, but unable to host multiple EX Raid at the same time.
E3 and E4 is where both gyms previously located within same cell rotate hosting EX Raid, but now, due to this
change, both gym can now host EX Raid during same wave. Unfortunately, it will not host a back-to-back EX
Raid anymore

Puchong

Puchong trainers will see new changes, notably at cell D3 and E3. Itachuuu Fountain and Volley Ball gyms
were previously in same cell, but as you can see, they’re both in different cells, and thus can host EX Raid at
same wave.

New potential gyms at E4, Kids Playground can be targeted, since it is within its’ own cell. Gym in F2 and G2
were previously within the same level 12 cell, now it has separated to own cell at level 13. This will allow them
to host EX Raid at the same time, and G2 cell will see rotation of gym hosting EX Raid, if you can meet the
requirement to trigger it.
Subang

Subang trainer has problem when a cluster of eligible gyms previously within same cell. However, with new
change, some gyms are now in different cell.

Check cell F2, F3 and G3, both now in its own cell, they can now host EX Raid at the same time. G2 cell still has
3 eligible gyms, and thus it can host back-to-back raid when requirements are met. It is advisable to target
only 2 gyms to maximize resources, and have a rotation of 2 gyms for a back-to-back EX Raid.

With addition of new cells, more gyms now can host EX Raid at the same time, but only G2 can host a back-
to-back EX Raid.

Discussion and Conclusion

I’ve prepared few maps that most of you have already familiar with, this map has Level 13 cells added to it.
However, I noticed it’s better to view this map on PC / laptop.

As we’ve already been analysing, there are pros and cons to the latest update. While there are more EX Gyms
available next wave (18 Feb), the wave after that will see fewer gyms able to host EX Raids. There are also cells
that will only host EX Raid every other week, due to no other eligible gyms within that cell, just like KLCC and
Titiwangsa.
It’s up to your point of view how you perceive this. It might be a good thing to have more eligible gyms in 1
wave, and fewer in the other, or, it’s better to have a back-to-back raid.

As for me, I see this a good thing to trainers still without EX Pass. You have more choices now to raid, and
hopefully increasing chances.

In regards of OSM data, there are no reports of new gyms from eligible feature from updated OSM data.
Niantic is still using 2016 OSM data, which means trainers without latest eligible feature, just like in Seremban
still unable to get EX Raid. My advice remains, not to give up, get Ingress players to help and continue updating
OSM map correctly. Be aware that gyms and pokestops distribution follows certain rules in POGO, so be careful
when submitting new portal in Ingress in hope of new gyms or pokestops

If you yet to receive EX Pass, all you can do is continue raiding at past EX Gyms. As long as this a lottery, that’s
all you can do. However, certain loop hole was reported, where new accounts raiding first time at EX Gyms,
or main account raiding at new EX Gyms has higher chances to get EX Pass. This prompt be to hypothesize that
Niantic probably want you to go out and have an adventure, thus the reason raiding at new EX Gyms yield
better result

That’s it from me trainers. Hopefully my findings here are the same with your local leaders. Please be safe
when out there. Good luck and may you finally catch em all.
