4 Economic Activities

Agriculture and livestock keeping are the predominant economic sector at the areas at Mangida
village. About 80 percent of the villages’ economy comes from farming. The sector is managed
by smallholder-farmers and most of them do not use improved farming practices and mostly
depend on rain fed farming.

2.4.1 Economic base

The Main Economic activity in Mangida village is farming and other minor economic activities
such as livestock keeping and forestry. In farming, different crops are cultivated including food
and cash crops. The number of yield depends mainly on the nature of soil (virgin land produces
more crops compare to other used land) and amount of rainfall.

Cash crops cultivated in Mangida village is mainly sunflower. As the major economic activity it
is potential through accelerated investments thus creating more jobs and increase their revenue
through taxes.
