MALAYSIA TECHNOLOGY EXPO (MTE) 2020/ DETAILED EXPLANATION

The planning for KMS Graduation 2020 (physical) began in December 2019. However,
due to Pandemic Covid-19, it must be cancelled since we have 1200 pax, and there was
no suitable venue that may fit that amount.
Therefore, we decided to have it virtually, yet the primary purpose is to let the graduates
get the mode of having physical graduation. We have been exploring the idea of a virtual-
world graduation ceremony as one of many ways to establish a better connection with
our distance graduates. Also, to integrate a variety of information technologies in our
attempts to gather photos and information of graduates to "bridge the distance," through
MARA webpage, Google Drive, Facebook, Twitter, and other social media such as
Telegram group.

Methods in processing (planning, shooting, and editing) the complete pre-recorded

graduation has included incorporating green screen effect for the commencement of
Graduates and Senate, to voice over the emcee texts and visuals into our live streaming
graduation. For live streaming, MARA Facebook is the medium of broadcasting the pre-
recorded video since users of all ages sign up for Facebook. For those who do not have
any Facebook account, the viewer would still be able to watch the live streaming through
the link given without needing to click the "follow button" since Facebook Live offers HD
Resolution to avoid buffering.
In blazers and Kurung, graduates' photos were projected on the screen. As family and
friends cheer loudly, lecturers and students applaud; this ceremony was held for online
distance viewers on MARA Facebook Live, 26 August 2020, marked the first-ever virtual
graduation ceremony for KMS. To make it memorable, we also had a Grand Preview
Session at MARA Headquarters (HQ), and the Chairman of MARA officiated it.
The virtual graduation impacted positively since we managed to complete the processes
in a month with a massive amount of cost-saving (RM90,155.30 by comparing 2019/
RM120.516.00 & 2020/RM30.060.70) in terms of the overall budgeting, the number of
committee members, and time constraint. In the meantime, parents and students may
also benefit from cost-saving for cheaper Graduation Package Fee (2019/ RM300.00 &
2020/RM70.00), and no allocation for attending graduation is needed. For the current
Pandemic situation, parents and graduates did not have to worry about travelling. We
mailed certificates and graduation door gifts, and graduates received the package on the
day of the Virtual Graduation. On top of that, KMS may also be significantly impacted by
having a great promotion for receiving more than 10,000 views in 1 hour.
In 2019, we had more than 40 committee members for the physical graduation, yet, in
2020, only 14 (5/KMS, 8/BITK, and 1/BKOM MARA) were 100% involved in producing
the pre-recorded video. For this, we could see great collaboration among the 3 MARA
divisions. Until today, several schools such as SK Senawang 3 (Ministry of Education) and
MRSM Kota Kinabalu (MARA) have taken our video as a guideline to their virtual
graduation. In conclusion, KMS Virtual Graduation has impacted positively for a significant
cost-saving to all parties.
