i. Benzene gives electrophilic substitution reactions. How does it substitute bromine ?

Explain your answer with mechanism of the reaction.

ii. Differentiate between SN 1 and SN 2 mechanism.

iii. What are optical isomers? Draw enantiomers of lactic acid.

iv. Draw the structure of the following compounds:

a. Resorcinol b. Hydroquinone c. Catechol

v. Compound `A` with molecular formula C4 H9 Br is treated with aq KOH solution. The

rate of this reaction depends upon the concentration of the compound `A` only. Write

down structural formula and IUPAC name of compound `A`.

vi. How will you detect carbon and hydrogen in an organic compound? Elaborate your

answer with suitable example.

vii. How can but-2-one be converted into 2-methylbutan-2-ol by using Gringnards reagent?

Give reaction with conditions.

viii. How would you prepare diethyl ether from ethanol? Give reaction with mechanism.

ix. Acetic acid is more acidic than phenol. Give reason.

x. Identify the compounds A, B and C in the following reaction.
