My ambition is to be a graphic designer and hopefully I will one day be a

Creative Director. You may ask…why graphic design and not maybe an artist of
sorts. Right from young, as far back as I can remember, I have always been
drawn to the creative subjects in school where I can explore and showcase my
talents. I am not someone who is particularly academic but I just love to draw
or sketch. So you can say that I have always loved the creative side of me and I
wish to take that with me professionally. And for me, I believe that being a
graphic designer would fulfil my needs and goals.

In taking the 16 Personalities test, my results indicated that I am a Logician

[INTP]. It states that I am someone who is introverted, intuitive, thinking and
has a prospecting personality trait. I am considered a flexible thinker and enjoy
taking an unconventional approach to many aspects of life. People with these
traits often seek out unlikely paths, mixing willingness to experiment with
personal creativity.

16 Personalities Career Path suggests that an ideal work day would involve
tackling difficult, seemingly unsolvable problems, whether that takes the form
of managing a pet store and theorising about parallel universes. Logicians are
well represented among mathematicians, analysts, researchers and scientists,
particularly in more abstract fields such as physics. However, I feel that I am an
exception to this career path. Numbers are just not my forte. I am not
analytical. And neither am I inclined towards science and research.

I stand by my ambition of being a graphic designer. My reasons for this is very

simple. Firstly, I simply do not trust these personality tests. There are about 7.8
Billion people in this world. One cannot categorise all of them into 16 types of
personalities. Personality tests are sold on the promise that they are valid and
reliable. However, based on statistical research, its determined that they are
not the most reliable and accurate means of illustrating a person’s entire
personality.

The questions in 16 Personalities are confusing and poorly worded. For

example, there is a question “You enjoy participating in group activities” and
the answer is either Agree or Disagree on different scales. That is a very
generalistic question. It should be based on the type of group activity. I enjoy
group activities such as bowling, charade whispers and Pictionary with my
friends. However, I would not be comfortable in such an activity with a group
of unknown people. Instead, the question that should have been asked could
be phrased in this manner “Would you enjoy participating in group activities
with people you are not acquainted with”.

Another example of a question asked was “You take great care not to make
people look bad even when it is completely their fault”. If the mistake was
minor and could be undone immediately, I would not be too harsh as to
expose the fault. However, if the mistake could cause serious damage or
repercussions to others and cannot be undone as easily, then I would not
hesitate to bring their fault to light. Also mistake happens all the time and no
one is perfect of above it. But there are certain lines that cannot be crossed
and the honourable thing to do here would be to own up to the mistake and
find a solution to it.

I can understand when the test says my traits align with the career paths
suggested but again the test is too general and can only be accepted to a
certain extent. Nevertheless, the character traits shown there does to a certain
extend conform to my own perception of belief of myself. In my career choice
of graphic designing, I believe having an open mind and the willingness to
experiment with unorthodox subjects or methods would be a great asset.
People are always on the look out for something new and extraordinary in the
world of visuals. Having these traits would definitely be to my advantage and
would allow me to stand out from my competitors. In conclusion, I am still
bent on my career choice of graphic design.

Notwithstanding the above, I am kind of thrilled to be in the same category as

famous personalities like Bill Gates, Albert Einstein and Isaac Newton.
